Simple lifesaver….try this!
« on: October 02, 2023, 12:15:54 AM »
I was told this by a fellow biker in England years ago….and it most probably saved me from a nasty crash on my kawasaki gpx600r

I was told that whenever you are getting your gear on….jacket, gloves, helmet etc….dont sit on the bike.

Simply walk or stand next to it and glance at the tires, nuts, bolts etc

Both sides!

Also - when you get gas - do the same!

You get used to seeing all of the bikes nuts/bolts/ things in a certain place- and (like me) may see something out of place that could be critical!!

Its amazing what your untrained eye can discern over time!

(People also mark the nuts and bolts with paint/nailvarnish/sharpee with a down arrow on everything….then at a glance you can see if its moved)

Food for thought!

I never put on my gear or add gas while sitting on the bike. Only exception is sometimes when I have to take off my gloves for some reason (like stopping for a quick photo which is rare, or paying for fast food at the drive through which is also rare but fun to watch the clerk's face when I pull up on my bike) I'll put them on again while sitting on the bike.

It's pitch dark when I head out. So I check my oil and look things  over when I  get back. Give my tires and the Mrs a squeeze, maybe.

I quit dressing in the dark.... 50% chance I'd get my pants on backwards.

After my meeting tonight I put on my wife's jacket but wore it home anyway because getting my hands out of the wrist grips sucks and I didn't want to struggle in front of the guys !

I lay out my gear in a downstairs room the night before so as not to disturb my sleeping wife on the odd occasion I’m making an early start on the scooter.

I know, I spoil her.
