Make oil changes slicker!
« on: October 03, 2023, 12:42:16 AM »

About to do the first oil change on my ferrari…i mean Kymco X-Town 300!

Easy trick….to get the same amount of new oil in your engine…

Do all the usual things to change oil…. but when you drain the oil pour it all into a old plastic container (i use cleaned out 1gallon milk )…examine it/analyze it/taste it….whatever you normally do…..but mark the level of oil on the plastic container, pour the old oil out, and refill with the new oil up to the mark!! (Clean out in between if u want)

You can refill the crank case with the new oil without messing around measuring anything else….!
(This assumes you had the correct amount of oil in initially, which you can check first…)
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Cranky
😄

Wonder if the xtown 300 has a magnetic plug? If not…anyone know the part number of a magnetic equivalent pls?

Actually is does have kymco

Make sure you select motorcycles/scooters (it defaults to cars) and don’t select model year 2023….

I’m pretty sure 2022 is probably the same as 2023 for most motorcycles/scooters!

interesting how all 3 of my bikes use the same drain plug! (MP-01, same as the Kymco X Town, too!) Must be an extremely common size.

Even money it would fit my DTX360 too?

I have one on the 250 Rebel.  Always a small clump of sludge on it when changing the oil.
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

"Donut oil magnets" are supposed to be better at collecting the bits not caught by your filter.
The advantage they have over the bottom of the sump drain magnets is that they are in the oil stream and all the oil passes by the donut magnet attached to the filters , not so the drain plug magnets.

Are oil magnets critical to long-term engine life?
1) no manufacturer seem to think so
2) darn few owners keep their rides long enough to find out

Cheepo amazon billet drain magnet plugs, are often cast and will snap off before the proper torque is reached.
Agreed, the steel ones should be fine.

while I don't have a magnetic plug on any of my bikes I've always thought it would be helpful, especially for scoots with no oil filter. Does it really help? Who knows! I also think the reality is so many of the mods we do on bikes and scoots makes US feel better...and in the end that's all that really matters!

Seeing this goldplugs website and their prices, I am really inclined to assume this oilplugs are made from 99% gold.

Bought a pack of four 12x 1.5 (4) inclusive alu washers for €10,- from my general motorcycle dealer. (pls see pic) One already in my Xc 500.
Think this goldplugs are a rip-off.

Also - curved magnets applied to the outside of the filter's 'can'.
