DTX360 Aftermarket heated grips
« on: October 03, 2023, 07:27:31 AM »
If you have a DTX360 and you’re considering fitting aftermarket heated grips be warned, this is a bigger job than you might imagine.

My mechanic tells me that the throttle assembly on the handlebar incorporates a moulded on element which has to be cut off before the grip can be fitted!  Makes me glad I decided to ask the shop to fit them whilst it was in for its second service.

That heated grip....a Kymco part, or aftermarket?
Are heated grips a Kymco "option"?

And 'Oh Heck Yes'....."easy...for little Leonardos'!" ( Da vinci)*

Optional part on the top of the range AK550 I gather, but certainly wasn't an option offered to me on either the X-Town or the DTX360 :(

I've gone (again) for the Oxford Hot Grips Touring as they worked well on the X-Town.  https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/323463

Cool new feature on them is a "BSM" - Battery Saving Mode.  When activated, it will sense when battery output drops below 11.5v or is there's no sound (i.e. the scooter not running) and will shut off after 2 minutes to ensure no drain of the battery.  A boon for the absent-minded / forgetful scooteristi.

Given the handguards not being suitable for handlebar mitts I opted for heated grips.

They're not offered as an official option in the UK (nor the Noodoe dash either - grrr) so I bought some cheap Oxford ones and had the dealer fit them. He didn't grumble and I didn't ask, so I don't know if he had any bother.

The only slight issue I'm finding since getting it back is there is now an interference drag on the throttle action - it's like I've now got a mechanical cruise control!  My mechanic says it'll fix itself in time.  We'll see, I may get used to it, but if not, it may have to go back in.

Personally I wouldn't accept that. It needs to be free to move, surely? Potentially dangerous otherwise?

Yes my concern too Steve.  I've already warned the workshop it may need to go back in.
