a Helix for The Hawk~!
« on: October 10, 2023, 03:37:19 PM »

Spotted at local grocers yesterday morning.

Hawk, can you tell what year it might have been?
Which years did Honda sell these in the USA?
I've seen two of these - one ridden by a lady yrs ago.

Any kind of scooter sighting is pretty rare around here. I did see a new friend of mine puttering around the reservoir last week on his new Burgman 200.

Sorry Hawk - but I can't love this scooter~!....the real beauty in this pic is that super sharp burgundy 1st Gen. Scion xB in the distance~! As much as I have loved my old Beetles and Busses - I'd rather have one of these clean first generation xB Scions!

Stig

I was thinking it rare that this scooter does not appear to have ever been down on its side!

I get the nostalgia it probably evokes, but sorry Hawk, I still think the Helix is fugly.  I know it's in the eye of the beholder, but...

Hey, go easy on the old Helix! The Helix was sold in the US fro 86 to 07, with a few year gap in the 00's. 86 and maybe 87 had steel wheels then they went to aluminum. No body changes over the entire run except badging. The earlier ones had plastic chrome badges, later years went to decals. Without any badging it's impossible to pinpoint the year. Some color change over the run, too. Not the prettiest scoot but still retro cool..and really nice to ride.

OK buddy, each to his own.  Just because I wouldn't want one doesn't invalidate your choice!  It's distinctive and I'll take your word that it's nice to ride.  For the record, I accept how cool the De Lorean is / was, but I wouldn't give you a thank you for one - reminds me too much of a Reliant Bond Bug.  Did you get those States side?

luckily my scoot still has its original decals, I just made sure to cover them with painter's tape when I did the original polishing of the paint. .
