As for the scooters in Kymco's line-up, I think they will keep a wide range of scooters going.  They sell in lots of different countries and have  different sized scooters for lots different reasons.  I think they will keep most of the existing 250cc scooters until they get a mandate for the larger 300 cc scooters.  They already have the engineering paid for in these scooters and will continue to make them as long as people continue to buy them.  To my knowledge, the core engine is the same in the P250, GV250 and X250. I could see them dropping the Xciting 250; but who knows.

The Xciting 250 was replaced by the XC 300Ri here (Croatia) at least 2, maybe even 3 years ago.

I fail to understand its meaning, with 23.5 hp. Why would someone buy XC 300 and not Downtown 300 and get "free" extra 6.5 hp at almost the same price?
Why would they have 300 cc engines with such a difference in output anyway?
To be honest, I see Xcitings 250/500 all the time but never saw a single 300...

There's a few of them here and I see a few owners on local forums (motori.hr).

And to answer your question.. just like asking why you bought the ZR7S and not the
Fazer and got 30hp more, better suspension and brakes etc.. the price difference was
minor.

They're similar, but still different bikes, and I'd still rather get the ZR7.

The Downtown and XCiting are supposedly very different to ride.
I've ridden the Xciting, and will probably be trying out a Downtown if it survives the
next 10 days in Split, but I've seen a lot of people comparing the two.

The Xciting is stiff, a lot more sporty, has bigger wheels and different seating position/style.
It should be a sporty scooter, like the Gilera Nexus.

The Downtown however aims at GT scooters like the Burgman 400/Majesty 400 with more
wind protection, comfort etc.. but yeah, the Xciting is falling behind.

The Xciting 300 isn't even a real 300, like the Piaggio stuff, and the Downtown's new G5
engine is something completely different and it would be logical to see it in the next generation
of Xciting.

I don't think they made the Xciting 300 because they really wanted to, but more to meet the
exhaust stuff regulations and still have an mid sized Xciting to offer in various markets.

The big difference here is the carbs vs fuel injection in the 250 vs 300 equation.

But yeah, at current prices, I don't care if the Downtown has 1" smaller wheels or
anything else, 23 vs 30hp makes all the difference in the world at those low power
outputs.

I would not. I tried to buy Fazer first (more like +15 hp more, not 30 at the time), but it was not available anywhere in Croatia at the time (August 2002!!!) because everything that was imported was sold for that year (you know there are no imports after the summer...). Then I tried to buy Bandit 600 or Hornet 600, they were all sold too.

So, ZR-7S was the only option and I did not buy it here, I had it imported directly from DKS in Slovenia.

I had a cap of 63.000 Kn at the time, and had to fit a bike, insurance, "kasko" and top case, and I did it. :)

Maybe buy, not order.. you could have ordered it since it was online (kymco.hr), and it's been
a while. I'd love to try it, but I'm still more interested in the Downtown.

I've had a test ride on a new Beverly 300, very impressive, but not for me.

"DOSTUPAN U PRODAJI OD 28.03.2011!"

Btw. I am not going above 5000 US$ for a new scoot of any kind. I would rather shell out twice that for a bike that tops around 230-240 km/h and does 0-100 in 3 secs.

Too bad we could get a Burgman 400 for under $5k in USA..
I need a scooter, I'd love to have a bike too, but I don't NEED that.

Amen to that, the Downtown that I am looking at is sitting right next to a Honda Shadow RS. There is no rational reason that makes the Shadow better than the Downtown, but damn it, it is one beautiful bike and I WANT it.  >:(

Just an opinion from one who learn's from this forum and some personal feeling's, I am really happy that I purchased a DT 300i. Why, well first off it was just about $5,000.00, very good looking unit, plenty of power (am not a speedster), can just ride around town locally having fun and still feel good about getting on most bigger highway's. Most of all, you'll be within a great group of people (scooter rooter's) on here for advise and knowledge. Of course if one has that kind of money, he buy's one of each! Good Luck.

It's not all about the speed, Axy.  I just sold my bike that goes twice as fast for 2-3k more.  Storage, steating position, passenger accomodations, milage, even the ease of a CVT are considerations all weighted differently by different people.

He knows.. he had a Kawasaki before his (many) scooters, just like me.
I'm now selling my Kawasaki to get a bigger scooter too.
