If you look inside are you seeing a baffle (tube with holes) thats extending right up to the exit
opening?   Do you see any filler material around it or just open space?
Thanks.   Trying to narrow down why mines ear muff loud before I cut it open

Back or underside of muffler holed?
Baffle broken or holed by rust beyond view from outside?

The first GV250 I owned had what I thought was a bad muffler: loud and with baffles that rattled when I shook it or turned it end to end, so I replaced it with a good one and guess what? It still was as loud as the original muffler. Since then I've acquired two more GV250's and they were both the same: louder than I'd like. Since then I have lost about half my hearing so I guess getting old has its benefits...both bikes got quieter without my messing with them.

Maybe earplugs are your answer?

Well thank you stuo!
As for earplugs......I've worn them religiously since 2013 when I took up riding again. I much enjoy them on the road.
Have read that wind over-pressure is the main concern to our hearing when riding. Whatever....I use them.
