1st ride after my surgery

One month and 1 day since my last scooter ride.
The Liberty was up in the rotation...and probably was the last ride with overnight temps above freezing for 2023!

Rolled out 2 hours before sunrise, light rain, 17 mph wind, and 47°F.

Yeah, it's dark! Spotted one deer.

Karl, for about a year I've been troubled by a spot on my forehead. I thought the sore was due to hat and /or helmet wearing.

It got worse and very painful - nothing I did would heal it.
So, to the dermatologist.... for the finding that it was cancer - and then to the specialist who only does faces to get it removed. 

....me sniffing - "are you grilling something up there?"
"Cauterizing, sir. You're bleeding again."
26 stiches. The most violent medical procedure I've ever been awake for.....closing that 87mm incision in the center of my forehead. ..after 5 hrs they were sure they had it all.
Two black eyes for 4 days, and they puffed shut like I'd gone 3 rounds with Cassius Clay!

Now it is so nice to wear a helmet without the discomfort!

Pushing the schedule a little bit with this ride , sure - but the future overnights are predicted to be 20 degrees colder.
So, I jumped on 47°F and rain.

Learned my lesson about these things - had a deep one cut off my forearm @ 2 yrs ago.  Scheduling 6mos checks with my dermatologist.

Yow! Sounds almost like a partial lobotomy without much of a local! Happy to hear of the success! Don't even fall for any radiologist's wild tales! RIDE ON!

87mm Scar?  I've told him he needs to come up with some duelling tale of derring do to explain it!  Nothing so prosaic as a surgical procedure will do for the Stig.

Actually Neil, I've been laying in bed working up the story of this mighty scar.

Obviously, a crash "on a scooter" is a non-starter. Boring.
I'm thinking it is time that I have a Rambo tale of my tour as a medic in Vietnam (the war, not as a tourist )

Perhaps....
"I was carrying 3 wounded comrades back to the dust-off huey, when the rotor blade caught me full in the forehead."

Or, to explain not wearing my helmet...."as I was carrying three puppies in my helmet for evacuation - the rotor blade caught me square in the forehead!"

I like the helmet full of puppies....


Only real Vietnam vets will know that a Huey's rotor blade is not going to hit you in the head unless you're standing on a slope, or you're crashing. That 48 ft rotor gets respect!

Factually - to explain this mighty vertical scar - it was more likely that I walked into the tail rotor while eating a Snickers bar.
Does not have the same zip, though.
Walking into tail rotors was common - and dumb!

several years ago, I had some wens (Klingon bumps) removed from my scalp, no stitches, they used a stapler, weird feeling on top of your head
