Another Kymco dealer gone in NY
« on: January 05, 2024, 11:44:42 PM »
stopped at the Kymco dealer we have in upstate NY today, had a great conversation but was told they're dropping Kymco completely. They liked the product but stated no one even stops to see them for parts or service. They are praising the CF Moto product now and have moved on. Sorry to hear this. I've had super luck with my Like200I but if I were looking for a new scooter, probably a Honda. I know they're more expensive but they'll be around. Until then though, I may never need much from Kymco. seems to every bit as good as my old Honda PCX150 was. Just wish they'd make a comeback but Americans don't embrace the scooter scene. 70-100 mpg isn't of interest. I've never had so much fun. Maybe it's a best kept secret

You may thank the never-ending chaos at Kymco USA for this marque being erased from this country. Lunatic in charge has sunk the ship....

My Kymco dealer in town has 2 of the 550's($10,400), 4 Agility 50's($1900), an A-Town - whatever that is, a 50?($1700) - and a K-Pipe($2500)
They are famous for 'no-discounts'  - I bet that 550 is easy $12,000+ OTD.

Hondas:
ADV $5500
Grom $3800
Metro's $2650
Monkey $4300
Navi $1800
PCX $4150
Super Cub $3850
Trail Cub $4000

One used 2022 Burgman 200 - 3500 miles - $4600

Yes - my LIKE200i was a very lucky guess for a first scooter. Reliable - easy to service - nothing breaks - parts cheap.
I like Hondas - but sad at how difficult normal servicing is. (valves, fuel pump, etc)....and they are all too small for me, now that the 300 is gone.
New scooter?? I'd probably look for a lightly used Honda Forza 300 again....or even another 200i LIKE!...or a used white Liberty!
Or a naked Honda 300 motorcycle!!

I cannot imagine any scooters being less difficult to run and more fun to ride as have been my LIKE200i and my Liberty S 150i.
I still think of the Liberty as being 'new' - bought it in 2017! And the 2012 LIKE acts and looks new, too.

As for the 550 owners - I suspect most of them have deep enough pockets to worry little about Kymco's future support of their scooter in the USA.

I wanted to take my Kymco to my local dealer in Michigan and they wouldn't look at it because it was more than 10 years old. They're only hurting themselves.

Hey Neil, Yes North Kingston in 20 mins from the ocean and 10 minutes from the state university. It mostly summertime and beach traffic that scooters are used.

my local dealer has more Kymco atv's but a few scooters, their affiliate dealership in Hampton Falls, right on Rt 1  only 500ft or so from high tide, has scooters and not even sure if they have any atv's   I actually bought my AK550 from the affiliate dealership, local didn't have one in stock, but that is where I get it serviced.

I live in Syracuse. Could you tell me what dealer you're talking about. The only one I have anywhere near me is in Fulton, NY. My current scooter I had to buy in Cleveland, OH, and have it shipped to me.

also, would like to add, my Kymco only has about 3000 miles so it might be a very long time before anything breaks. I did just retire so the use will go up from the past 3 years. keep in mind, I have 9 bikes total and try to use them all. still very partial to the Like200i though. seems to cover a lot of bases for a little scooter. Maybe I'm getting lazy after 45 years of riding but the step through design wins me over

Yep, the first generation LIKE's require little more than regular oil changes....a new belt and valve lash inspection per the sched. in the owner's manual. Drain the puke tube and new gear oil, whenever you think of it.
Of course,  this goofy scooter will run just fine for a long time if you do little more than keep gas in it and keep the oil topped up.
I imagine a lot of owner's never check the valves....and ride it until the belt breaks.
