NSR: salty roads and a sunrise
« on: January 18, 2024, 04:08:41 PM »
Went into the grocers in the dark - came out and thought it had snowed again. Nope.
Salt.

Now I must wait for a rain to clear the road before I'll take my scooter out in this much salt!

Nice sunrise - can't wait to see another one on my scooter!

Please note that I washed both the head and tail lights that morning.
I once stopped to use a car wash of my '91 Vanagon (VW) on the way to work. It was too cold! My doors froze shut - and I was late for work!

Also, hard to see on R front, under passenger door - exterior locking gas cap. It liked to freeze on cold days. At gas stations I would go in and buy a cup of hot coffee and pour it on the side of my VW!~
Nevertheless- we all loved that car! But, it was like waxing a three bedroom home!
Wife's Jetta II was almost the same color. Hers was cool - had a hand-crank open metal sunroof!

....that mattress? The rear seat slid forward and fully reclined - its bottom cushion and backrest plus mattress then resulted in a 'bed'. Also - resulted in Daughter #4, probably.

not my Vanagon, but same color scheme, I really miss it, '82 last year of air cooling, the wondering shift lever, gas heater. It was a very comfortable vehicle

We bought the first year Vanagon in 1980 - cream over orange.  I believe the most expensive VW sold in America @ $10,000,
A wicked combination of SLOW and THIRSTY!

The dealer also, on the floor at the same time, had a new left-over T2 baywindow in the handsome "Champaigne Edition" livery.
@$7800 OTD. Same engine - less weight - better mileage - and after gas prices rose always wished we'd have purchased the Champaigne model.
The one we should have purchased! but who goes for old when the new improved model is sitting beside it!?

We loved the 1969 bus, our first car (after I came home from the games in S.E. Asia) and the '91 Vanagon (@$18,500 OTD, kept for 20 yrs) The '80 Vanagon not so much. too thirsty.

mine had a gas heater, I recall taking my son's hockey team to a game in Portland ME one 25 below zero night, the other parent with me sez "gees, that's just like a wood stove" referring to the heat it put out. my answer was "ya, at the cost of 6 mpg"
