Doing laps in 17 mins?....assuming one doesn't become a new Bansky mural on a pub side.
What's the distance again, Neil?

If memory serves, 36 miles & change.

Edit:  It didn’t. Google tells me 37.730 miles

One from last year to make you squirm.

And I thought the 120 mph lap when I was there in the 90’s was superhuman…

Michael Dunlop equals Uncle Joey’s all time record

(I was there to see Joey’s 3 x wins in a week.)

One of the reasons they stopped using the Nürburgring was, at nearly 13 miles, the spectators only saw a car go by every now and then.
Plus it was hard to implement safety measures over such a distance.
To "see" a race at the Isle....unless you're in a helicopter....is only a matter of fleeting glimpses, yes?
The sound and fury probably accounts for much of the fun of  being there?

Came across this on instagram of ferry carrying riders over for the race.
Girl said "it's a pilgrimage,  not a vacation."

True, although the staggered starts (every 10 seconds if memory serves) means you do see bikes pass regularly and often see faster riders catching and passing the one who set off ahead of them!

With regard to the ferries, I well remember that cattle truck experience!  Run by the Isle of Man Steam Packet company, affectionately dubbed the IoM Steam Racket Co.  Fares are extortionate for TT fortnight and one year I was there one of their boats hit the dock, damaging 40-odd bikes in the process.  All part of the experience and the girl is right, it's a pilgrimage.

Depends where you choose to watch Karl.  On the mountain with speeds of 200 mph they flash past, but pick a spot like the hairpin at Ramsey or Quarterbridge and the bikes are slowing to about 40-60 mph making for great viewing.
