Had an interesting* day out yesterday on the Triumph.  We had a celebrity TV Chef who died recently of cancer and his life was celebrated by over 20,000 motorcyclists who rode from London (the Ace Cafe) to Barrow-in-Furness his home town.  Dave Myers was one half of a duo called the Hairy Bikers and the run was led by his surviving oppo, Si King and it was a moving (literally) tribute.

The guys even made it to the States, at least once:

I joined the ride at the NMM for the ride north.  I never knew  there were so many bridges over the M6.  My arm is tired from all the  waving!!



* Ordinarily I hate riding in large groups and avoid it like the plague.  For this cause however, I made an exception and I'm glad I did.  It was an emotional day.

Earlier in the day as I arrived at the Museum, the weather was less bright, in fact my Street Triple was, by now, filthy having been spotless when I set off!  Here are some of the arrivals at the Museum.  Note the Hawaiian shirts, one of Dave Myers' trademarks!

And his passing brought out 10's of thousands of riders?

$$ was raised, how?....for a charity, which?

This is not that charity ride where you transport a Teddy Bear from station to station?
Forgive me Neil - but what was that charity?

Anyway - great pictures! and looks like a great time was had by all!
And so many bikes!!! (20K bikes was @ twice the number of people we had in Yellow Springs yesterday for the biannual Street Fair.)

cool pics and it sounds like a great fund raiser. My heartrate starts climbing quickly at the sight of that many bikes and riders in one parking lot...like you, I'm a solo rider and avoid group rides. Looks like a great day, though.

$$ was raised, how?....for a charity, which?   MORE than £50,000 has been raised for the two charities set to benefit from Dave Day. A target of £15,000 had been set for the two chosen charities - NSPCC* Childline and The Institute of Cancer Research.

This is not that charity ride where you transport a Teddy Bear from station to station?  No, that's next month!
Forgive me Neil - but what was that charity?  Relay Riders of which more at the time!

I'm just like you Hawk and had to steel myself for it given the likely numbers.  I stayed with them for about 75 miles, then peeled off just north of where I live to let my anxieties subside!  Joking, it wasn't too bad as everyone was very well behaved. (I did touch 80 mph at one point on the Motorway, but we quickly reverted to 65-70 mph.)
