HELP!
« on: July 02, 2024, 02:07:13 PM »
I'm doing the changeover to full synthetic oil on my '23 People S 150i ABS. I had to take the outer cover off to refill my rear differential. I figured it was half apart already, so I pulled the variator out to put Dr. Pulley sliders in. The stock rollers are 13 grams. The problem is I don't know what size I need. I have a caliper, but I don't know what size rollers or sliders these measurements mean. The diameter reading is 12.7mm, and the width reading is 8.5mm. What size rollers or sliders does this equate to?

"18x14 Dr. Pulley Slider in  8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 grams. This is the standard size for Kymco, people s 150" according to several parts sites.

Not saying your measurements are incorrect - but they are a puzzle!

With your measurement - you'd be looking for 13 x 9 weights.

OK, not seeing anything like this in the parts diagrams for Kymco People S 150's.
You might try phoning the sellers of Dr Pulleys - like

I went to my Cyclopedia. The picture of the variator ramp plate looks the same as mine. The manual also says the diameter of the weights is 18mm. I measured again and got the 18x14 reading I wanted. I just ordered 18x14 9gr Dr. Pulley sliders. I'll let you know if they fit.

What's that old saying in shop class?......
"Measure twice. Cut once!"

Glad you got it sorted, Mike!

interesting variator...I've never seen one like that before. It looks like they replaced the traditional 3 small, u shaped plastic slide pieces with the 3 metal pins. Are the holes the pins slide in metal, too? metal on metal sliding?

Looking closely at them, the holes appear to have a sleeve of some other material. It's black but too small for me to identify.

Looks like they changed the design from the more common sliders on the ramp plate to pins which would slide inside the cylindrical metal holes (and bushings) on the variator.

Also your photo shows a roller with a very worn flat spot, more than enough reason to replace the rollers soon. They can get stuck and cause all kinds of issues.

Yes! I was very surprised. My scooter only has 700 miles on it, and the rollers are already developing flat spots. I've used Dr. Pulleys in my 3 previous scooters and have been happy with them. I'm replacing the 13gr rollers with 12gr sliders, so I hope to pick up a little performance gain also!

My new sliders came in today from Buggy Parts NW, but I have a problem. All the paperwork and packaging say they are 9GR (Which I ordered). However, when I checked them on my postal scale, they are reading 5. I double checked the factory rollers, and they are reading 10. What do I do?

What do all 6 of your new sliders weigh as a group?
If you get 30gr....phone buggyparts.

Good news and bad news. I bought a new scale, and the sliders are 9gram. Unfortunately, on the new scale the old factory rollers are 13gr not 10. I'm not going to go 4gr lighter, so I ordered 12gr sliders. Anybody need a set of 18 x 14 9gr dr. Pulleys?

I need another source for Dr Pulley sliders. I got a E mail from Buggy Parts NW. They are on vacation until the 24th. My sliders won't ship until the 25th and arrive until the end of the month. My scooter is in my garage all apart. I don't want to put it back together with the stock rollers, and I don't want to wait another 3 weeks for parts. Does anyone know another reliable source for Dr Pulley sliders?
