had a great ride with my daughter last night
« on: July 19, 2024, 01:21:52 PM »
I've probably said before that neither my wife nor my 2 daughters have any interest in my scooter or bikes. It has been a few years since either of my girls were on the back on my scoot and I assumed they never would be, again.

Last night I asked my 17 year old if she wanted to go on an evening ride with me...she said yes! I couldn't believe it! I had her put on long pants and long sleeves with a jacket (luckily it was a cooler evening), helmet and gloves.

We got on the Helix (best suited for a passenger) and went on a nice ride out to get ice cream. While the round trip was only 5.8 miles, we did hit 40 mph on one stretch. She said the speed didn't bother her and she really enjoyed the ride. When asked if she'd like to go on another ride in the future she said yes! My heart about melted when she told me how much fun it was.

Never thought I'd share my riding hobby/passion with either of my kids...maybe there's more to come?

Great to hear Hawk.  My wife hasn't been on my motorcycle for many years and she only goes on the scooter when the car's off the road!  That said, she does enjoy it when we're out on 2 wheels, but is constantly fearful that "if anything happened that would take out both parents for the kids".  A reasonable fear I have to concede.

Youngest daughter (23) will still occasionally ask to go out with me, but that is getting rarer now that she's flown the nest.  I always love those outings so my advice is to savour it while / when you can!
Regards & ride safe,

I certainly will! It then got me thinking about gear...should the inconceivable happen and she wanted to more regularly go for rides?..she is a tiny girl...5'0 tall and 82 pounds. I don't even know if gear is made for someone of such small stature?

I also noticed quite a difference in the acceleration and handling of the Helix. I weigh about 150 lbs...add in her 82 and all of a sudden the Helix is hauling 232 lbs. Everything felt different!

Yes hawk, they do make gear for skinny teens!  It’ll take some shopping around but I kitted out my 7 year-old Grandson a few years back!

I do see some smaller, female gear on my go to shopping site, Revzilla. XS ladies gloves, XS ladies armored jackets, armored riding leggings...looks like footwear would have to be kids motocross boots...one can dream...
