been a while since you washed your riding gear?
« on: August 04, 2024, 10:55:25 PM »
as I just got home from a very nice, late afternoon ride in 90 F temps (32 C), I started to wonder when the last time was I washed any of my riding gear...helmet liner, socks, underlayment shirts, pants, jackets etc. The answer is... I can't even remember!

I used to have a big bottle of baby shampoo to hand wash my stuff in the sink but one of my daughters found it and played with it one day a few years ago..and I haven't seen it since. So....it might be time to start thinking about washing my gear...how about you guys?

OK,OK - it was July 2019.....
Because - my First Gear hi-viz jacket was not so hi-viz any longer....

I removed these 5, D-30 pads.....

And placed the jacket in the bathtub with some nice Persil (German detergent - or at least it was in the 1950's -)
Cool water, and messed it about with my hands. Let it sit for a few hours - then went at it with a large, fairly soft nylon brush and gave it a gentle scrub....and a hand agitation until my knees gave out.
Good rinse in the tub then hung it outside on a warm day under a patio umbrella.
It came out pretty nice!

PS: dang, it''s coming up time to wash it again, and do the valves on both scoots and check the darned PSI in the tires. I'd rather do the valves than mess down there on the floor with the air-pump and air pens!

PPS: I like this jacket so much I kept an eye out for this d/c'd jacket to pop up on the internet. One with a crazy low price was on a hanger at my dealer's  - and I bought it while trying not to look too interested!

This rascal I don't have the right temps to wear it often...so it stays clean. Pretty much.

On a related topic, do any of you guys suffer from this specific short term memory lapse?

Riding home I think “I must clean all this bug squash off my visor”; then, lo & behold, set off for the next ride and it’s still there?!

Mental note, first job this morning when I get up!

Wife & I decided "pizza" sounded good. BEST Pizza is at Bentino's, a tiny shop in Yellow Springs. Hopped on the highway and collected every bug in the midwest on the windscreen before we got home.
The screen wash/wipe only made it worse. Looked like yogurt.
Next morning heading to MIL's, pointing at the screen, "I thought you were going to get that when we got home!"

I forget which one of us said that!
I'll come smartly into a room, stop....pause..."anyone remember why I came in here!?"
After something like that, my daughter likes to say, "you seniors are a lot of fun!"
(I was in my 50's when we brought her home. From the "Kids n' Puppies" shop at the mall - I tell her)
