Tyres for DTX360
« on: October 14, 2024, 11:32:20 AM »
For those of you who have been following this saga, the time has come to bite the bullet and change tyres on my 2 year-old DTX360 for the second time.

I was taken with the Anlas Winter Grip 2s and initial thoughts after fitting were positive BUT, in less than 2,000 miles the rear is shot, as the picture below shows!.  I could possibly have eked it out until the Spring, but as it's already "white lining", it doesn't inspire confidence and my preference was to change out early.  So, are the Anlas Winter Grips an "all season" tyre?  I think not.  In my 'umble opinion, they're for winter use only.

So, it's back to my old faithful Michelin City Grip 2s which have given me true all season good grip and longevity on the past scooters.  OK I lose the rufty tufty off road look of the Anlas or even the OEM CSTs, but as my ride spends 99.5% of its time on tarmac, what's the loss in fitting a 100% road tyre?  There's no harm in trying new things, but when you want to be sure, go with the tried and trusted I say!  After I've had them on the DTX360 a while, I'll report back here.

One shot Anlas!

Ahhh, that's better, Michelin City Grip 2s fitted to my DTX this morning.  I'll post a couple of photos here when my hosting site has finished a bout of maintenance!

Rear:

Front:

Discussed pressures with my mobile fitter guy and he suggested 32 psi Front and 36 psi rear.  Checked later with a website (https://eu.mynetmoto.com/shop.cfm/moto/kymco/6725-dt-x360/motorcycle-tires.html) and he was bob on!

Edit:  New rubber fitted both ends on my driveway came to GB£215. Now I know that’ll seem fair to you guys Stateside, but it seemed steep for me. I could source the tyres for £135 the pair so that means £80 for fitting & carcass disposal. What do you think, am I being a cheapskate?

Pretty fast, after 2000 mls. Didn't have a feedback yet from my sold XC 500 how this ANLAS behaved. But seems to be too less of performance for this price.
OR you doing wheelies in front of your favorite coffee shop...?
EDIT: got a pic from tire after ca.1200 kms, does not look that bad.

Glad to hear good things about the Michelin City Grip 2 tires. I only have about 2000 miles on the stock Kendras on my People S 150, but want the best rain tires I can get. I get real nervous riding in the rain, and I understand the City Grip 2 is the go-to tire for wet weather.

Ruffus, the rear Anlas seemed to go pretty quickly after about 1500 miles and had life left in it at 1800, but I’d lost confidence in it!  No wheelies, but I guess all that weight plus 100 kgs rider makes for a lot of stress on the rear tyre?

That said, the rear CG2 on my X-Town delivered 4,420 miles so I have high hopes for them on my DTX.

The Anlas was good as a wet weather tyre Mike, but the trade-off with longevity meant in my eyes it was not a patch on the CG2. Rode out yesterday with new rubber on wet roads with nary a qualm!

Neil, your 80 GBP is about $105 USD...so a little more expensive than I would have thought, for you. For us? That would be a deal I would take all day long!

Neil, to be clear..
Fitted means the guy drove to your house, took the wheels off and on, changed rubbers 2x, balanced 2x and disposed old ones?
If that's the case £80,- is not too much and a fair price.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I took off my Liberty's rear wheel.  Went to my local multibrand dealer, handed it and my new Pirelli to the kid.
He took it across the room, chipped the nice gloss paint on the rim, mounted my tire, and tore the new valve stem.
I'd already paid his boss the $40 labor fee, then handed the kid a $5 tip.
I went home and remounted the wheel...not a simple job.....then discovered the torn, leaking valve stem and chipped paint.

Front wheel? Drove it 30 miles to a Honda Power Seller bike, scooter, atv dealer.
The 2 young Honda mechanics, welcomed me. Popped my new tire on.
Not a Honda? Didn't buy tire from them?
Not a problem.....plus I got to look at all those new Hondas!
I have two of these big Honda Power Sellers near me. If Honda sold that big wheel SH here!!!

Neil, that worn back tyre (!) is exactly why the car tire is on the rear of my 300i (which is still for sale!).

Stig, I weep, too for you are the example for superb care. My grandson drives his flatbead big truck for his livelyhood and he needs to write a book about the in-COMPETENT so-called mechanics....

I have a great excuse for not dark-siding Karl, over here it’s illegal! Incidentally, that Anlas wear profile is totally different to the Michelins. I’ve never had a Mich wear flat like that.

Pirelli Diablos or Pirelli Diablo Rossos. The best tyres I've had for rain for 10 years, I just ride very similar to dry weather.
