rebuilding a scooter seat
« on: November 18, 2024, 05:53:35 PM »

This was a major project - undertaken within weeks of purchasing the scooter.
The LIKE sat fine in the dealer's - but....
The seat was a killer. Killed every ride after about 20 mins. So thin & uncomfortable at my tail bone!
I purchased a LIKE 50 seat from a wrecked 50 on eBay. 200i and 50 seats are the same.
Removed the cover, trimmed a bit of troubling plastic off of the seat pan - and rebuilt the seat several inches thicker using the correct types of foam and 3M rubber spray glue,  and a yard of vinyl cover purchased from a seating company. (boat seats)

Recovered with 4 Way Stretch Sail Rite vinyl using stainless staples.
Ugly and comfortable!
The pristine original seat is bagged and in a closet.

that's been a great upgrade. Have you ever measured the height of your new seat? I'm guessing dirt bike height or big ADV bike height. (asking for a short friend..)

Sorry Hawk....didn't see your question.
I just measured it at 34".

I no longer think now about how uncomfortable that seat -pan was!
I tested and tested  sitting the seat before deciding that was enough! (put a trash bag on the foam and rode it around)

sorry to go off topic...but Neil - looking at your signature line and all the great bikes you've had, I can't help but think you would be the perfect target audience for the one print magazine I subscribe to, Classic Motorcycle Mechanics! It is based in your backyard (so to speak) and covers classic bikes from the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's. Your entire list of past bikes seems to fit the profile!!

They may be classic bikes now Hawk, but they were hot metal brand spanking new models when I owned them!  I'm familiar with CM, but never subscribed as in my youth it seemed to be a publication aimed at greybeards and now that I am one, I no longer own a machine from the target demographic :)  Mind you, the Street Triple is getting perilously close!
