New Year's Day ride with heated gear...game changer!
« on: January 01, 2025, 07:14:38 PM »
Had to go for a New Year's Day ride. 28 F (-2 C), blue skies and windy. Used my new, heated jacket today. It's a lighter weight, jacket, has heated chest and back. Wore in on top of my base, long underwear shirt and under hoodie and winter riding jacket. Wish I would have had one of these years ago. It made the ride completely bearable. Riding my Helix helped, too, as it provides a ton of wind protection.

Rode for just under an hour and 26 miles. It's been a few weeks since I've been on a bike and it felt..glorious.

Pics taken in City Park by the river in Iowa City, IA.

Anybody else get out today for a New Year's Day ride?

Good job Hawk!
Nice looking day and glad your Honda is running again. Wasn't there some sort of issue?
No heated gloves?!
My hands getting cold always undone me!
Finally went to 7V battery gloves and on frigid days hands aren't toasty, but liveable. Made all the difference in my winter riding!
No riding today....and studying the weather - maybe not for a few days.
But....never say never! If the urge for a YS ride comes upon me I might just lay out all my gear some bedtime.
5am starts require prep the night before...otherwise I might forget something.
Good for you, and Happy New York!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Guys, you're making me re-think my decision to forgo a ride owing to the temperature here (currently -1C) as it's really sunny and otherwise perfect for an outing.

I'm now thinking a post-lunch bimble out there might be in order, after all, the DTX is already pretty filthy.
Regards & ride safe,

Stig- Helix still has a very slow leaking front tire..I broke the bead and did my best to sand and clean up the wheel..made a big difference in the rate of leaking, but it still leaks. It's OK, since I check tire pressures before every ride so just top it off.  Yes, hands and feet are still my weak spot, too. Heated gloves are always on my list...but I have a hard time justifying spending $200 USD on something I may use a few times each year...

Neil - go for it! There's something satisfying about saying you went for a ride in January with the weather below 0 C! Looks like your scoot gives good wind protection, too.

I did Hawk!  Just a brief 20 miles, but it was good to get out. At that distance, summer gloves and the heated grips were all I needed to maintain hand comfort. The new DXR boots I bought kept my tootsies nice and toasty too.
