Brake lever question
« on: February 03, 2025, 09:54:59 PM »
I remember hearing or seeing this trick some time before. Just wondering if it works or not. As I remember it, you secure the front and rear brake levers engaged with a rope or something. You leave them like that overnight. Supposedly this gives a much more positive brake feel. I don't know if it forces any residual air out of the brake lines or not overnight. Has anyone heard of or tried this?

yep, when bleeding brakes, if you're not getting as firm of a lever as you'd like you can use something to pull in the brake lever (rope, rubber bands, etc.) and leave it overnight. The theory is that any residual trapped air will find its way up into the reservoir. Sometimes it works great, other times, not at all!

I routinely clamp my front brake with a rubber band when stopped for photos.
In addition to the normal brake lights, it adds the brake lights on my LIKE's top case, and the 2 extra lights and the LED bar on my Piaggio.
Photos with a scooter's lights off - vs on - big difference.

Is it making my front brakes better? Well, ??

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

As hawk writes, this method is used to bleed residual air from your FRONT brake system.

You have to open the brake fluid container and watch at which position the piston opens  this feeder hole at the containers bottom, only then it works.

I have a strip of hook & loop (Velcro) that I have used as a parking brake on nearly all my bikes
