Agility 125 aftermarket Carb installation.

So since I’ bought my latest Agility it started a couple of times but when winter got a firm grip on our area the engine simply refused to start.

I then removed the carb, cleaned it  properly, tested the spark at the spark plug, tested the petcock, got the battery tested by professionals,  and everything worked like it should.
The carb got re- installed, I pressed the button, but nothing - the engine simply did not start.

I then did a lot of reading, and watched some videos. It became clear that there could only be one reason for the problem - the idling air/ fuel mixture screw needed to be adjusted.

But here’s the problem - the idling air / fuel mixture screw on an Agility has a weird “d” shaped head and I could not find a tool that can be used onthat freaking screw anywhere. According to the Service Manual only Agents are suppose to do adjustments on that screw !
So I got fed up, decided to dump the carb,  and buy a cheap Chinese aftermarket  carb with a proper screw as replacement. After all, there is nothing an agent can do that I am not able to do myself.

Long story short - the aftemarket carb got installed, I pressed the button, and Bingo - the engine instantly purred like a kitten !

glad you figured it out! I stopped halfway through your post after you said you couldn't find the D shaped adjustment tool...and found them online...then came back to your post to read you'd swapped carbs!

For future reference there are 2 unique shaped carb adjustment tools that I'm familiar with (and probably many others).

The 'pac man' and the 'D shaped'. Do an online search for either shaped carb adjustment tool and you will get endless hits.

The engine was running perfectly on the first day but when I tried to start the engine the next day the engine simply did not start. When the spark plug was removed it was soaking wet and the spark at the plug was perfect. The engine clearly got flooded with fuel.

I then started doing more reading and also watched more videos. It became clear that the evap system could be causing the starting problem. So it looks like the original carb was not causing the engine start problem.

I am thinking of disconnecting the Evap system just for the time being to see what happens. The weather is a bit bad at the moment so I will disconnect the Evap tystem as soon as possible.

could be off, but did you check your carbs float level?
Sometimes a too low floater causes this enrichment on fuel and a soaked sparkplug.

Yes, I did. The float level is exactly the same as indicated at the Service Manual.

When I initially brought the Agility home I actually layed it down on it’s side top of a matress on a trailer. According to what I’ve read that was probably a mistake - the Evap canister probably got flooded when the scoot was lying on it’s side.

I hope toget this sorted  when the weather start getting better.

Ah, that could be a reoccurrence, flooded by residueal fuel.

Just an update.

Despite the cold weather I’ve disconnected the Evap system today. I did not expect the engine to start in this cold but when I pressed the starter button the engine fired up immediately.

My previous Agility in South Africa did not come with an Evap system and I’ve never smelled any gasses. So I am not sure what to do. I’ve noticed many people in the US disconnect their Evap systems but I do not want to do anything illegally.

Blow it through with pressured air, reconnect and the scoot will run like new.

found a video from Mitch's scooter Stuff on youtube showing him disconnect the evap system from a Piaggio Fly (150?). He mentioned hard starting due to a tip over or overfill getting fuel into the evap system.

My first thought was what Ruffus suggested, blowing it out, helping any residual fuel to evaporate. If you do end up disconnecting it, don't worry, in Iowa there are no inspections of motor vehicles, no one will ever know (or care).

In Ohio....there are no vehicle/driver restrictions whatsoever.
And if you do manage to find one to violate - open containers are not permitted in court.

They will take your license - but not your steering wheel. So, no worries.
