my worst scooter maintenance experience
« on: February 16, 2025, 03:57:18 AM »
About this time, two years ago, I was in my garage replacing my rear tire with a new City Grip II.
The Honda dealer changed the tire on my wheel, and I came home to put everything back together.
However....
THE simplest task of inserting screws was taking me 45 minutes.... and I was mighty frustrated!

My problem was that I was in the midst of a righteous case of undiagnosed sepsis.

This is the way I left things on the garage floor as my young daughter gathered me up and bravely drove us in my big truck through traffic and managed (just!) to get it backed into a space outside the local E.R. :)

A week after the mild onset of things - I was correctly diagnosed (with big thanks going to my daughter who refused to believe that I had the flu (phone nurse) - she placed a call to my GP who told her that I had sepsis and to get me to the E.R.)
He was correct, I then spent 8 days in ICU ....

They say I had a nice view.....

This was the best view, from my wheelchair as they rolled me out to our car, all better!

I still shake my head at how befuddled my thinking and motor skills were as I tried to work on that scooter...it was making me crazy!
A few days later - I did get it all back together!

Thanks Neil & Hawk - What I remember most is trying to fit the screws in the muffler end-cap. "This shouldn't be taking an hour...!"
I made two or three runs at it, then went inside and made coffee.

I wasn't 100% after discharge - it took me several tries and a couple of hours to fit the exhaust back onto the studs. The muffler is heavy, and I kept trying to go the wrong way through the center stand!

Frankly - I'll never figure out how the dealer fitted two new Michelins on the LIKE 12 years ago for only $130 shop time!

You didn't wonder how you got sepsis?
Still wondering.
Anything I'd say here would be 100% uneducated speculation.
E. coli in my blood samples.
Physicians ..... honestly seemed more interested in treatment.
"Causes, who knows? Could have been many things, including your own body."
Ate my first bagged salad, Cesar's, it was great!, in 2 yrs on valentines day...

I don't do my own work, other than check air pressure, oil level, chain adjustment.

my worse experience, not on my scooter, on my V-Strom 1000, after my 2nd winter season, I caught the dreaded green cancer of the wire harness among other issues, my dealer even had a Suzuki NA tech fly in to take  look at it. Everything was way beyond any warranty, but they helped with parts, and my dealer wrote off a few hours, it was still a $3k pill to take, which luckily I had something going on with the owner at the time and was able to barter, come to think of it, I was able to get my V-Strom repairs, my Kymco UXV450i (new utv) and 2 used ATVs out of that deal
