hearing protection
« on: March 31, 2025, 06:53:03 PM »
To protect my hearing on every scooter ride I wear these 3M foam ear-plugs.

I buy them by the carton - most economical I've found.

They let me hear just enough - and not too little.

Even while wearing a full-face helmet I find that I want to wear these plugs.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

right back at ya! Never ride without them. Howard Leight brand, 32 db reduction, box of 200 pairs. I also never mow without them.

Full face helmet, com system playing music, ear plugs, and I can still hear traffic sounds clearly. Best of all worlds!

My go to ear defenders these days are these bad boys:

Alpine Moto GP range.

I’ve used a variety of ear plugs every ride for 40+ years ranging from disposable foam (E.A.R) right up to £70 custom moulded ones and the reusable Alpines are as good as the custom jobs at about £16.

My last hearing test showed a better than average level of hearing loss for my age. Coincidence? I think not.

Edit:  I’ve been asked if I ever have problems with the pull tabs coming off. Well I’ve never had a problem with the pull tab coming off.  They’re made from some sort of silicon and seem robust enough and they’re in daily use.  Only tab issue I have is locating it sometimes with cold hands/fingers!  Always get there in the end, but visions of needing to thaw out in the house before being able to remove the little beggars! 🤣

Biggest threat for me is losing one…. Get around that via a rigid routine whereby I remove them and immediately pack them into my skull cap which I then fold into my right glove!  Been doing this for 25+ years and no losses so far. 🤞🏼
