Warranty Experiences

  My local dealer said that Kymco is offering a 2 year warranty (Yamaha only offers one, but you can buy more =P).  Has anyone had to bring their scoot in for warranty work?

  How did it go for you?  Any hassles/trouble?  Did everything get fixed?

poke around... some people have had a hard time with the warranty.
Im usually on a bicycle, so for me, this thing is hauling ass!

2 years OR 10.000 kms.
Very important for us that used to do that in one year.

p.s. Agility - dead starter switch, replaced under warranty. People - leaky entire engine casing and speedo cable, both replaced under warranty. When you come to think of it, not exactly the most reliable scoots... >:)

Kymco/MSA gives no warranty in Germany, but everyone has to give 6/24 months defects liablity (burden of proof switches from dealer to customer after 6 months).

After 15 months / 10000km the Xcitings carburetor diaphragm had a cut and was exchanged for free without any discussions. So it worked for me like a real warranty.

Out of any warranty/liability:
An electronic issue (speedo and odo "dead") after 40 months / 25000km could be solved by the dealer with technical hints from Kymco. I had to pay 1.5 hours work for the complicated reprogramming.

I had a problem with the fuel sending unit when my fuel gauge wasn't working and was told that according to section xxx.xx of your warranty your electrical components are not covered by the 2 year warranty. They have a one and half year warranty and I took it in at 10 months. Not covered.

True, it is written in user's manual of Kymco scoots.

Most Kymco warranty comments I have heard, until today, have been very positive. Where I have heard negative it has been related to the way the dealer managed the process, not the way Kymco managed the warranty. There have been a few issues but in general they have been quite good here in the US.

Thanks in advance!    O BOY -----whear should I start ill just say it was a very big hassle and to much
trouble and it after 6 month in 3 dif. shopes and 260 bucks it was not worth it. But they did fix it but it took 6 monthes they had it all winter long and in to the frist of the summer. they had to replace the rocking arm.

  It is a bit worrying that they really don't cover the electronics(!?!)  At all?  Do they mean the instruments or the engine's electrical system?

  Troubleshooting and replacing a sending unit or a switch honestly wouldn't bother me (My Vespa had an instrument cluster that went bad - Though covered under warranty).  But on a fuel injected engine, there are a lot of tech bits that can go bad.  I don't much care for that.

  I'm going to swing by the dealer's today to check out the Downtown.  I'll be sure to get some answers.

I asked about the warranty while at the dealer.

  He puled out the paperwork and the display card. - It is a 2 year (10,000 mi =( ) staged waranty right now, in the States.  1st year is all inclusive.  Some items drop off after 1.5 years.  Electronics are covered throughout.

  I asked him about his dealings with warranty work.  He said the smaller scoots (esp 50cc) are the usual suspects for work.  Mostly regulators (Which really are abused when considering the charging system on a 50cc), and a few cats and dogs.  He said Kymco has been pretty cool about coverage.

One less worry!

are you in the States, Whispers?

i am looking at my warranty certificate and it clearly states the following:

"Two Year, UNLIMITED Mileage Warranty"

i was also told as much by my dealer

"Coverage

Any material or workmanship found to be defective by Kymco within the warranty period and limitations shall be repaired at no cost for parts or labor at any authorized Kymco Dealer nationwide"

"WARRANTY PERIOD

Section 1 -  ALL parts and repair labor are covered for the first 365 days (1 year)
Section 2 - Engine and electrical parts and labor only extended to 540 days (1.5 years)
Section 3 - Engine parts and labor only covered up to 24 months / 730 days (2 years)"

and then the normal wear and tear items, exclusions, obligations, etc....


my dealer says he rarely see's a Kymco (at lest an Agility) in for warranty repairs,  so no worries :)
