Judging from Arkie's posts, it's because he rides fairly hard. Will you do the work yourself, Arkie? Do you have access to a service manual? There are a couple of washers associated with the variator that you have to put back in exactly the way they come out.
Does the new belt you're looking at have cogs on the outside as well as the inside? If not, then you must not compare widths of the new against the old belt as measured. The OEM belt with cogs on both surfaces must be measured according to a special method to determine if it is worn beyond it's service limit. This is shown in the manual. I can email the page to you if you need.
Of course, you can always just install new belt and not worry about it.
My new Gates belt is 1039x30x28 which is supposed to be equivalant to OEM. I found it on Gates' "belt finder". I can't actually find Kymco's exact measurements for their OEM belt.
