windshield for 2009 Kymco 500
« on: January 23, 2011, 01:06:44 AM »
I just switched from a 2005 Majesty 400 to a 2009 Kymco 500.  Overall, it seems to be a good upgrade.  However, the short windshield is an inconvenience.  If anyone has the same year and model, I would appreciate advice on upgrading to a taller windshield.  Thanks in advance.

Does yours have the "Eagle Eyes" double headlights or the old style single headlight?  There's been at least one case on this forum in which 2 owners swapped windshields.  Older Xcitings had a significantly taller shield.  I can't say for sure which you have but you can look around the web at pictures of various Xcitings and figure out if you've got the shorty or the older biggie.

If you have the double headlights, I don't think you have the option of changing to older model shield.  If you have single headlight, you can look around for a used older shield or even order a new "older model" from Kymco or a dealer.

Also, there're a number of posts here from owners who have bought the Givi brand "touring" windshield and are happy with them.  I think they are available in a couple of sizes.

My '07 had the Kymco touring windhield which I prefer over the Givi. Here in central Texas it's hot more than cold. Usually. This winter, ummm . . . seems colder so far.

Now I have an '09 with the short smoky sport screen. Windy in the winter - colder. Windy in the summer - cooler. It is windy.

i bought the new givi windsheild for my 09 500RI. Mounted it on the lower position...Then cut the sheild so I can look just over the windsheild.

This winter i have it in the top position so it now covers me completely.

Givi Stock the windsheild was just to big. IF ya'll want me to post a pic iu can.

Maybe you would like to consider a small extention.  I fitted an Aerotrim to my Suzuki V-Strom and it made the world of difference.  I am going to purchase one for my Xciting 500 as well.  I am almost 2 metres tall (6ft 5in?).  Check their website - www.aerotrim.co.za

I see they do have an agent in the USA.

I will post a pic once I have fitted the aerotrim on my scoot.

Here's my '07 with it's standard windshield.  I fine it quite adequate for my non-touring riding. Priced about $146 at Stadium Yamaha's Kymco parts list.

I have just fitted a Aerotrim wind deflector.  I tested it up to 140kms - what an improvement.  Being taller, I did get wind buffeting and helmet wind-noise.  95% improvement  ;)

(lets hope the photo works)

BradleyT is right. I saw and discuss this improvement on some other bikes and it is really cool. When its adjustable, its even better. If you have older model (like Hoolander) I think GIVI has some windshields that cover 12cm higher (I dont know how many inches is that). But for me, stock from 06 model is enough. I am 188cm tall.
