Upgrading from the S 200
« on: January 24, 2011, 04:15:43 AM »
Just wanted to post a quick question regarding the 2008 Xciting 500.  What's the difference in the 500R and the 500?  I'm purchasing an Xciting 500 this week from someone who's moving on to a larger vehicle with four wheels.  All work details recorded by a local shop and the bike only has 5K miles on it.  I'm thinking 2800 is a steal for that ride.

Ok first off the blue book and NADA both value the bike at around 3500 to 4000 so you got a deal the only difference I am seeing between the RI and the 500 is ABS braking system. I bought my 07 for 2500 dollars with only 1100 miles and never once regret it. I love my Xciting and I am constantly tinkering with Bertha. I love the fact that I can make all other rider take a second look when I either keep up with them or off and leave them with ease. If yours needs tire like mine did let me recomend the Pirelli Diablo Scooter tire to you they are awesome I have 6800 miles on them and they look and feel great still and not to bad priced on motorcycle-superstore.com. Great buy take it and run with it and happy Xciting times.

They changed from carburator to fuel injection sometime after '07.  Think the r has injection.

The "r" will have the short tinted windshield.  Can be changed to larger clear one.

anti-lock brakes are an option so may have it -- may not.  I think there would be a logo "ABS" if it had it.

Anyway, it's a great price.

Good to know, thanks!  I'll check into the Pirelli tires with a comparison to what the local shop guy has to offer.  I know he carries Pirelli, so we'll see how that goes down.

Out of curiosity, how would I tell if the bike is fuel injected?

Almost forgot... the bike also has a very nice and tall Givi windshield already... not to mention a Givi top-case to boot.  Comes with a maxi-scooter double lined cover and two shorty/rally helmets even.  I swear, I didn't use a knife or gun to get the deal I did.

The "500i" is fuel injected and all "500r" too. At least this was the terminology in Europe.
Or look through the maintenance cover in the storage compartment. Can you see the big black circled cover with 4 screws of the carburetors slide valve?

So the temp got above 40 today and the roads were relatively dry... I had a chance to take the 500 out for my first ride.  Holy cow what an improvement over the S200.  Handling on the highway was absolutely superb.  I was able to take it up to 140kph easily and got about 160kph with no problems after cruising at 140kph for a short bit.

Going to have my local shop do a full tear down, check, and rebuild of the bike before I bring it home.  I was able to see the S200 for a good price, but I kept the custom Prima exhaust.

Hey spr0k3t, now you see what all the Xcitment is about!  Congrats!   ;)  We do need to see pictures of it, of course.

I don't have much yet.  It's at the shop until next week (that is of course if the weather is decent enough for me to pick it up).
