Your Kymco Top Speed?
« on: February 18, 2011, 02:42:31 PM »
Hi All

I thought I would start a "Top Speed" thread here in GD, so I hope one isn't floating around somewhere. Seems when we are wanting to upgrade our bikes or people are looking for a new one, this question always comes up. But Kymco has so many models, visiting all the forums here and digging up simple info on this stuff can get confusing and time consuming. So here is a thread for all makes and models and owners to state the top speed of their scoots, and any performance mods made that have increased it, or otherwise.

You can give rider weight, mileage, location, and climate conditions of where you live. List mods, performance enhancement items, or state if you are running stock. But of course please list make, model, year, and mileage at the very least. So, I will start:

Year: 2009
Model: Agility 125
Mileage: 1500m / 2400km
Performance Upgrades: Stock
Location: Greater Los Angeles
Climate Conditions When On Road: Generally mild, 50F to 90F
Rider Weight: 250lbs
Top Speed: 56mph / 90kmph - GPS Indicated

You may also upgrade your info as time goes on, and changes occur.

Let's Go Kymco!

Year: 2009
Model: People S200
Displacement: 163cc
Mileage: 1100m / 1770km
Performance Upgrades: Prima Exhaust
Location: Kansas City, MO
Climate Conditions When On Road: Wet/Mild, 42F to 98F
Rider Weight: 230lbs
Top Speed: 67mph / 107kmph - GPS Indicated
Notes: Little or no wind and mild downhill grade for top end speed.  Flats top out around 62.

Year: 2008
Model: Xciting 500
Displacement: 499cc
Mileage: 5800m / 9334km
Performance Upgrades: Stock/Debadged
Location: Kansas City, MO
Climate Conditions When On Road: Generally mild, 37F to 75F
Rider Weight: 230lbs
Top Speed: 85+mph / 136+kmph - GPS Indicated
Notes: Had room left on the throttle.  I'm sure it could easily top out above 90, seen some stock stating 94mph GPS.

That Xciting 500 sounds like a sweet machine, spr0k3t. When I get a 250cc the Xciting is def in the running. Might even be leading the pack if it can comfortably maintain a cruising speed of 70mph

The S200 seems a bit long in the tooth in the Kymco line up now. Especially at the same MSRP price point of the Yager. 62mph, give or take, for a scoot that want's to compare favorbly with bikes like the SYM HD200 most likely isn't going to cut it in the line up for much longer. I wonder what Kymco might have in store for it, and will they hold the line on pricing...

Agreed... the XC500 is the bike I really should have held out for rather than getting the S200.  Don't get me wrong, the S200 is a sweet little bike with quite a different handling and fantastic get'em around town feel.  I will say that the S200 could be a much better scooter with just a few minor modifications to it (exhaust, intake/filter, variator, rollers, slightly longer belt) could easily push it up to 70 top end with the right tuning.  As it is, the S200 is a nice scooter for the price.

Year: 2010
Model: Kymco Yager GT 200i
Mileage: 10 (yup, only 10 so far, just got it)
Performance Upgrades: none
Location: Northern California
Climate: 60* F, cloudy, dry, no wind
Rider weight: 190
Acceleration: Slightly slow off the line, but once it gets to about 3000 RPM, it hustles.
Top speed: 65 MPH indicated on flat ground (Yager GT 200i speedos are pretty accurate)
MPG: unknown yet
Notes: Fuel injected, liquid-cooled. Tire pressure: F-25, R-32. Engine not broken in yet (doing the hard break-in procedure). Only took it up to 65 mph and kept it there for a few seconds, had a bit more throttle left, but since it's still being broken in, I don't want to actually break it, just break it in.

I'm sure he had the tailgate up and the cover on... otherwise he would have said there was a strong headwind.   ;D

My S200's top speed is whatever I consider to be safe. Seriously, as long as it keeps up with the traffic on the secondary roads I ride (up to around 50 MPH), I'm happy.

Haven't chatted for a while so guess I'll chime in here:

Year: 2005
Model: People 150
Mileage: 13,000 km
Performance Upgrades: Stock, but looking to add some sliders I purchased last year
Location: Iowa
Climate Conditions When On Road: Everything, 18F to 95+F
Rider Weight: 175lbs
Top Speed: 74 mph / Speedometer indicated, downhill with a tailwind but bike was still rock steady!  Have checked speed against radar a few times and indicated speed is usually about 7-8 mph faster than clocked speed.  Guessing on the flat, without wind she's doing 55 to 57 mph.
