80cc big bore kit for People 50 4t. Which one out there is best?
« on: February 25, 2011, 10:25:53 AM »
I wanted to be able to ride 2-up with my wife on a People 50cc 4t. Judging by the responses I have received so far on a previous post, it seems it is not going to work out very well.

I am at ease with not being the fastest thing on the road. I have gone for rides with my wife on a 50cc 2T before and found it acceptable and enjoyable.

I have now decided that my only option (other than getting a different scooter) is to have a 80cc big bore kit installed professionally. (Am I right?)

Unfortunately, I have no idea which brands/models of 80cc big bore kits are considered good ones. There seem to be several. Does anybody have real world experience with a 80cc big bore kit?

I would also like to know what other parts might have to be upgraded at the same time for best reliability.

Is there anything else I should consider (again, aside from getting another scooter).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Dreflu.

OK so that's 1 pt for Malossi!

Any other brands that have a good reputation for 80cc kits?

I haven't found a Malossi 80cc kit yet. However I have found a Polini 80cc kit that is supposed to fit the People s50 4t.
Here's the link: http://www.sip-scootershop.com/EN/Products/P1250007/Racing+cylinder+POLINI+80cc+4T.aspx

It sells for roughly $250-270 usd. Anybody know anything about the Polini Kit?

Its more than double the price of  the chinese ones on ebay. Are the ones that sell for 70-100 dollars any good?

Juice,

Thanks for your honest and direct opinion.

Can you elaborate on your statement that I would ruin the scooter? What specifically would go wrong?

Your scooter was designed and built with a 50cc motor to be used by one person . There are scooters with motors , frames , brakes and suspensions that are designed to be able to safely carry more than one person . Unless you have a master mechanic and vast financial resources you would be better served to get a scooter that was designed and built to suit your needs .

Gonna keep the scooter stock for now....

However, I going to keep the option of the big bore kit in mind.

If anyone has first hand experience on performance and longterm reliability please let us know.

Thanks!

Mallosi, polini, stage6,...

A lot of people here will tell you it's a bad idea. That it won't work or will ruin your scooter.

Forget it. If you want to do then do it. Use quality parts and realize 1, you won't see mammoth gains and 2, you have now made another part of the scoot the weak link.

Best mode of increasing performance is upgrade transmission... Variator, weights, clutch, clutch and torque springs... Belt even... Then open air filter, exhaust and carb jet. Then big bore kit, bigger carb...

Lots of steps that yeah, will cost more and require more set up and possibly more headaches than buying a bigger scoot.

But then you'd have a stock big scooter and not a bad ass tricked out little scooter!
Im usually on a bicycle, so for me, this thing is hauling ass!

I totally agree with your comments Glopezz.

I have always preferred the " bad ass, tricked out little scooter" way of thinking over the standard logical choice.

I am going to take your advice take it step by step... I have always enjoyed tinkering. This is going to be fun!

Well, how much would you charge if I asked you to install an 80CC KIT, New carb, cams, cdi etc... parts and labour?
