So I've got some plastics on my scooter that need to be either fixed or replaced.  I was wondering what you guys do with broken plastic pieces.

you could either try plastic welding (its the same as with metal but with plastic) or you could trek across google looking for replacement plastics. how bad is the damage? is it that bad that you will need to change the panels?
hope you have some luck.

found a site..dont know if it will be of any use but  you could e-mail them to see if they have replacement parts for your scoot
hope this helps you out

Well the parts I would need to fix do not have any problems cosmetically... the problems are with the screw down points is all.  Nothing major like missing chunks or whatnot.

:-\ hmmm is it just a case of the screw not staying in? you could try and use bigger screws so it will re-thread the holes, bit of a hash job but it might sort the problem.

I've got a lot of experience with plastic heat forming but have never welded it. I watched a guy weld plastic once.  Did a good job.  You've got to have some experience, of course, and just the right "touch".  And a heat gun with special attachment or plastic welding gun which is just a specialized heat gun. Then you get plastic rods of the correct substance for what you're welding.  I don't know what our scoot plastics are made of.  (Polypropylene?,Polyamide?,Copolymer?,ect?)

Anyway, you could get all the equipment and stuff and learn how to do it for not a heck of a lot of money (maybe the cost of one nice new plastic piece.  :D  Even then, it may not work out well at the screw down points as the weld might have irregularities that have to be ground flat.  Still, it does open up a lot of possibilities.

Depending on the particular damage, if it were me, I'd probably try to use a washer under the screw head if possible.

While I'm out and about tomorrow, I'll grab some good pictures of the problem spots.

Here are some recommendations from Urbestfriend............
1)  Fill the holes with Silicone and then put the screws in and let it dry.
2)  Fill the holes with JB Weld (Let it set-up and redrill the Pilot Hole.
3)  And this one I did last week.  Buy some 6-32 flanged nuts (Like the
ones in the bottom of chair legs)  Not with the bent probes, but with three
holes for brads to go thru.  Now...Drill out the stripped hole to the OD of the
flanged nut.  Apply JB weld to the OD of the nut and insert it into the
hole you drilled.  The next day it'll be swet-up and you'll have a very durable
connection.  (Watch so JB doesn't get over hole in end of nut as it will trap
air and refuse to seat well.  I got all the hardware in stainless at Tractor Supply.

Unfortunately everyone uses the basic attachment construction.
