Hello from a Newb

Hello, I just joined the site and the scooter world. Been looking around and like the setup. I just got a new Kymco Agility 50 the weekend before this past one. Got both me and my wife some scooters, but hers was a Hyosung. We wanted some to ride on the weekends and I really wanted something to save me gas driving to work (I was driving a Chevy Tahoe getting 12 mpg on a good day). I live approx 13 miles from my work and figured a scooter would be nice and wanted a 50cc so I wouldn't have to worry so much about the motorcycle endorsements. I have rode it to work the last week with no issues taking mostly side roads. It was derestricted from the place I got it. Not sure exactly which derestrictions where done, but it will get to about 42 - 45 mph (actual speed not based on speedo which seems to be about 5 to 7 mph off). I plan on doing my own looking and verifiing what derestritions. 

So far I am happy with the purchase, but unfortunately the modification virus has affected me with this to. But I don't plan on doing anything drastic like 80cc kit or anything. maybe some small things to improve acceleration and exhaust.

Other than that, like I said I am new to the scooter world, but not the car/modification world. So I am mechanically inclined , but not an actual mechanic. Pretty much every vehicle I own gets modified some how. I look forward to researching and learning new stuff about these scooters and maybe as I progress upgrade to bigger scooters.

OH and I know how to use the search function lol. I am not new to forums either.

Welcome to the forums and grats on the scoot.  There's quite a few things you can do to the Agility 50 to get a bit more pep out of it.  Eventually you will more than likely want to go with something a little bigger I'm sure.  I ride 19mi to work each way.  I had a People S200 and stepped up to an Xciting 500, and I don't touch the highway the entire route.

Up at the top across all of the forums, there's a place you can use to search.  Check that out for some of your modding bug.  Couple recomendations to look at... upgrade the Variator, Exhaust, Carb, 70cc BigBore kit, rollers, belt, clutch/springs.  There's quite a bit you can do to get more out of the Agility 50.  I've read a few heaviliy modding hitting modders getting upwards of 60 something mph (GPS), but that's with some serious race kit upgrade parts.

The agility 50 uses a gy6 based engine so you can find tons of parts for it.

start your mods with the transmission first.  Tune the weights, get a new better variator, clutch, clutch springs...

then move to engine mods like open air filter and carb tuning. 

Just remember one little change can cause a cascade of tuning.  one thing at a time...

welcome to the fourm good choice of scoot thats what I have and to me it sounds like we have the same mods done all ready Im happy with mine so all I did was put smaller rollers in and I can get up 45 to 50 on a good day with little wind. I dont plane on doing anything ealse to mine when something is working good why play with it. Besides like glopezz05 says the more you mod it the more tuneing you have to do. And that also means more cash flow.

Yeah I don't want to do crazy stuff just minor stuff. I mainly want to up the start up acceleration a little it's not bad, but would like a little quicker. Was thinking of upgrading the Variator and rollers. Seems census so far on the forum is 5.5g. But I plan on getting a pack with multiple options for weights, like it has been suggested to a few others, and seeing what works best for me. 

I have a couple of main roads I ride on with long stretches and the speed limit is 45mph and most people tend to do 50 to 60, but there are two or three lanes so I just stay in right lane unless I need to turn left. Since I top out around 42 to 45 I am ok with that.

Welcome "Resolve", sounds like another mechanic on board! I am good with camera's but not the scooter mechanical stuff! I haven't been on here long, couple weeks, and find many friendly people. I live in a fairly hilly area so I started with a Peoples S200 and found I need something a bit more therefore stepped up to a Downtown 300i. The Peoples was actually only 160 cc or so which surprised me after reading the book! Hope you enjoy your boarding this forum and I am N.E. of Pittsburgh, PA.

5.5 will be to heavy IMO... I did have malossi 5.1's till yersterday..

The top is about 48-50 right now.... It really helped the hills too...

Slow to respond have been on Vacation. I will keep that in mind about the roller weights.  Loving the ride right now. But really want to make some changes.  But overall I am very please with the purchase and love riding the Scoot.

  I also have an Agility 50 and with the cdi cut and variator changed. I get 38 to 42 mph but the hills kill me. I just put in 5.5g roller weights and am itching to see if it pulls hills better. I'll know in about 2 weeks. Anyone have opinion on if it will improve speed on hills? oh....welcome to the forum,this has been the most helpful site I can find

HEy dale4... IMO, i had the 5.1's in which were good, but the 4.5's are way better...
I'd also suggest a malossi 1000 contra, 1000 fly springs. the rpms will stay high going up the hills.
I live in the mtns., i'm surrounded by these dam things...
