Helmet's Full Face or Other
« on: March 05, 2011, 01:57:20 PM »
I am a new scooter rooter for about well weeks and my helmet is not the Full Face. As I venture through photo's etc. I see many Full Face over the plain helmets that just curve around the ears and some not that way. I purchased a helmet that doesn't curve around the ear's with the helmet part but with the leather that provides better hearing. It has the drop down shield either the clear or tinted. I'm sure there are many pro's and con's on styles and am anxious to hear opinion's. My helmet is: Scorpion EXO-100 Solid Open-Face and I paid about 100 buck's. My Reason: tried on other types but I felt it was cutting off my hearing which I feel is very inportant as long as the wind doesn't get to you. So far even though limited in use due to weather, I feel comfortable with it.....SOME THOUGHT'S/OPINION'S

motorcycle helmet. cover as much of your face as you can. if something ever happens you will be so glad you had the protection.

Because I like my chin, I use a fullface when I'm doing anything over 35.  At rallys I go with a shorty due to the safety in numbers thing; however, on the group rides I'll always do the fullface.

My weapons of choice are the Arai Vector and HJC IS-2

I would never use anything but full-face helmet.

Pennsylvania law requires that you wear seat belts in your car, but you don't have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle or scooter. ?????????????????

I'm guessing their belief: when you are strapped inside a cage, you should be fine... but on a motocycle/scooter you can consider yourself properly $#@%!

I only wear full face helmets and then only bright colored ones.  A white or yellow helmet is one of the best ways to make yourself visible to other drivers.

I'm looking for a full face in a bright color now.  Currently I only have two 3/4 helmets.  One I got on ebay for $19.95 which is really not so great but it IS really light and it has a nice long sun visor and hinged face shield.

I'd like to find a full face with a good long visor but having difficulty finding one.

What do you all think about using a motocross helmet for street riding?

There's a better solution than a long visor.  It's a small attachment that goes on the front lens... peel it off when you change lenses or want to move it to another helmet.  The device is about 15% tint cut to fit most helmets or even the Arai vented lens helmet.

With the notes on the full face, is there a specific type or kind or is it just what you like in color and comfort? There are so many sitting on the shelve's one has to get some possible advise.

I go for three things in a fullface.

1. Comfort/fit
2. Color (high visibility & reflectiveness)
3. Wind Noise and Ventillation

When shopping for a new fullface... find one that fits well at a shop.  Do the full gammit of trying on different models/sizes for each vendor, writing down the particulars of those that do fit well.  Go online and read up on the details/design/reviews of each one you found you might like, then price shop for the color you want.

Good place for a large amount of reviews on helmets: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmets.htm
