S250 or DT300?
« on: March 05, 2011, 03:45:40 PM »
I've been researching scooters for about three weeks and have come to the conclusion that Kymco is the way to go for the money.  I've narrowed it down to the S250 ($4200 OTD) or the DT300 ($4963 OTD).  I'm 6' at 260 lbs and will be riding the scooter 70%-80% of my daily commuting.  The drive to work is 23 miles each way.  I read that the DT feels a little cramped and soon I will go to the local dealer and sit on one to check it out.  That's the only my real issue with the DT other than the $800 extra for the price.  Making this choice is killing me.  I'm having to wait till about 3/13 so I can get my tax return from the idiots at the IRS.

In your commute to work, will you be doing anything over 55?  Granted the S250 should be able to handle 55 without problems, but you won't have much overhead room for safety (top end of roughly 70mph iirc).  The DT300 you will have a little more to go with though.  Another option might be the S300GTi.

Do they sell the S300GTi in America...I don't remember seeing it on Kymco's site.  That scoot WOULD BE AWSOME !!!  I thought it was in Europe only, am I wrong?

The People 300GTi is not available in the U.S., no.

Those prices are awesome, btw. Who's your local dealer?

Yeah, the 300GTi would be teh awesomesauce.  I would definitely consider something like that for the third scooter in my collection.  However, I would go with the DT300 over the S250 just for the cc displacement

I thought it would do 80 fairly easy even with my big arse on it.  I've heard lower 90's indicated and about 85 true mph.  ???

The top end may be 85, but getting to 85 is not exactly as fast a transition as it is from 55 to 70.

I have a P250 and want the Downtown... who's your dealer.  Those are great prices, I want to get those prices.

I have ridden the P250 for the past three years and can tell you the 300 is much faster off the line and goes faster overall. The 300 is almost the same weight, has fuel injection and is supposed to get about 70 mpg.  My P250 gets 55-60 most of the time.

Or the new Grand Dink (in US: Grand Vista) 300i!? ???
Combines the best from both: flat floorboard and storage room and weather protection and engine power.

I think the Grand Dink is the Downtown 300i.

No. We (in Europe) got the Downtown 300i long ago. (*)
But the Grand Dink/Vista 300i was introduced just last year:

I'm 6'1" 245-250 started with a Peoples S200 and quickly went to the DT 300i and never looked back. I am getting used to that bit of leg shortage as was once suggested on this Forum. Beside's no doubt stick with something that will be moving here in the USA and it surely look's like the DT 300i. Further, will be plenty of good people on here to help with question's on this particular scooter.

i like the S250 for its "scooter looks"

i sat on a DT 300 at my dealer. at 6'3 i don't think i could do it, or get used to it. maybe?

i found the S250 much more accommodating with its almost flat floorboard to put my big feet

scoots!
