Cold Start problem, 5 min / How to fix ?
« on: March 06, 2011, 10:26:54 PM »
I just bougt a Agility 50 cc the other day, before i bought it i testetd it and it started and ran well (beacuse the previous owner ran it warm! of course :-\)
So, now i have a scooter that is what i call useless, the scooter always starts, but it takes about 5 minutes to get it warm and have full power. :(

I have changed the fuel filter, and took out the spark plug and cleaned it and also tested this autobypass choke, (2 ohm, should be between 1-10ohm)

A scooter can not be like this, is this something that i just have to live with? or are there people that have had the same problems and solved them?
Temp weather: -1 *c to 5 *c
2008 modell, 4.500 km
Here is a video link of the same problem: (not mine): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W341hRjfSms&feature=player_embedded#at=17
but same problem.....

Hope for some good answers! :)

I have asked a lot of dealers here in Norway, and this is what they say;

- Change Main Jet(#16) to a bigger one and the idle jet(#40)
- Set the Valves

Got some news from denmark as well, there is a problem with the needle in the carburettor.
The dealer from Denmark is saying that Kymco have sendt a official service doc regarding this matter, and that i should contact my local dealer.

Any other suggestions?  ::)

fjoerto......There are MANY entries on this forum that ask that SAME question about warm up time.  The answer is usually always the same.  The Kimko 50 agility is ALWAYS going to take five minutes, more or less, to warm up.  It will not help for you to rev it up.
I start my scoot up first thing and just let it idle before getting a helmet on, locking the shed door, etc...all of which takes about five minutes.
This is a great little machine, but it does have this one disadvantage.....Good luck with your new scoot.

Codger is right these ag 50's really need to warm up a little tbefore your ride.
I bought my ag for christmas in the middle of a snow storm and was a little worried about it's cold starting and warmup time, but I feel both improved a  little when I adjusted the valves and replaced the spark plug (I found the iridium unit started my ag better in the cold weather). These carbs can be adjusted for the cold which helps with starting but you still need a couple minutes of warmup time while you get your gloves and helmet on :)

So people that have bougt a brand new Agility also have problems with cold weather (0 to +5 *C)?
The reason i`am not so satisfied is because i take a ferry sometimes, it`s quite embarrassing to walk the scooter onshore  :D :-\

what helps also is take some duck tape and block off almost half of the in take to the carb so its not sucking in so much cold air. you can also make a plug that well slide in the intake for the cold air I have a plug that I just put in in the winter time and when summer gets here I take it out.  ( note this is not done on my kymco its done to my nst scoot.)   they both have the same gy6 engine.

It happens to me too,at the same temperature.After 3 winters it dosen't bother me anymore.
If it was a fix to this,and I'm shure it is,it will have to be reversed when it warms up in the spring.Why bother?
Ride it more,start it less.

Changed the main jet from 80 -> 86 and changed the spark plug, now it`s much better! :)

I have this scoot since 2007 and in 2 winters (in which I didn't touched any mechanical part of scoot , especialy carb) I didn't had this problem... Usualy I was giving some time for warming up but that beacouse I wanted to, not cuz I was forced ... Now in november or begin of december I had a problem with scoot and I thought its a good ideea to clean the carb (after 18000km) *WRONG*... the carb was perfectly fine it turned up that the piston rings were worned ... I'ved changed the piston rings , now it runs ok except the starting at cold part ... what can I say the carb it's a fine precision part and I did it with my hand ...
