Starter motor
« on: March 12, 2011, 02:55:15 PM »
My starter motor just died on me..
I replaced the battery thinking that was the issue (5 years old,
clicking noise etc..), but no such luck.

Can anyone help with picking the right one online?

Will ANY 125/150cc GY6 starter fit (I can see those all over the internet).

The look the same (ish)...

50 cc http://i31.twenga.com/cars-motorbikes/scooter-parts/kymco-agility-50-4-tp_5326231812202326707.jpg
125 cc  http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/pict/2805854617536464_1.jpg

I've found a few on ebay, and have seen a few in person at the local dealer, most chinese 50cc scoots
there had virtually the same starter, but it's smaller then the one on 125cc bikes.

125 and 150cc are the same.
Shouldn't be a big problem finding one, but I think I'll rather get a set of new tires for the
same price now then the starter. I can live without that..

Get any for Chinese GY6 125 cc scoots by the local dealers of Chinese scoots (Keeway etc.) in Osijek, it will fit and be cheaper than original.
You will sell it sooner or later and will have to fix it by then anyway.
I am not too happy about cranking on these "new" scoots, I hope you saw pics of broken vario casings on the forum... it seems that they are not made to be cranked often.

Yeah, I've seen a few chinese scoots just a few days old that came back to the shop (that I worked in)
with that issue.

You think I'll be able to find the starter cheaper localy then on ebay? Seems like I could get away
with $50 with shipping from ebay.

Try, definitive answer is one phone call away. And you do not have to wait for a month and think about paying customs fee/VAT during import which could happen easily.

Btw. which one fits A125 of these? http://www.scooterpartsmania.com/electrical-parts-electric-starter-motor-c-1_7.html

Have you checked the solenoid? If not please do.

My starter motor went click click ... I replaced the solenoid and it started first time better than ever.

Cant help thinking the solenoid is a weak link.

I've tried 2 different ones.
The starter is siezed, very hard to turn, and there's some grinding noise coming from it when
I DO manage to make it turn a bit.
