I picked up some longer bolts (and some caps to pretty it up
) last weekend.
here's the plan so far:
1: Cut spacers from steel tube - To get the bolt heads slightly above the stock rack
2. bend a 1/2" steel bar to go between the bolts. It will need to be bent so the bolt heads won't interfere with the platic mounting plate.
3. Weld some plate steel to the bar to make the plate. Have to be careful not to warp it. May weld the spacers on the bar to make it all one piece.
4. Cut the plate to be even or maybe 1/4 longer than the stock rack. Grind smooth.
5. Make 2 'U brackets' like the Givi's, to hold the back down.
6. Drill holes to mount AND to affix some rubber blocks underneath - My tick for keeping it SOLID.
7. Put it together.
That is the plan... So far.
I found an adapter plug that will allow me to easily disconnect power to the LED brake lights I'll be installing on the topcase when it needs to be removed. Should be dead simple.
