Update-oil level rear unit -and engine oil usage

In a previous post some time back there was some debate on the rear unit oil level. I filled the unit to  the oil level at the fill hole, although the amount exceeded 1.8ml.(I had put about 2.6ml in). Another member had experianced oil puking into the air box when the oil level was at this same level. I left mine to see what would happen.  I was using a synthetic hypoid oil in the rear unit. Now after I have racked up more miles, I still don't have any oil puking into the air box. I can only guess the synthetic oil does not aeriate or foam like a petroleum. Also after 1500 miles- no Engine oil usage at all. ( I had heard that synthetic oil may keep your rings from seating). I highly recommend the synthetics, even at a higher cost it takes so little in the engine and the rear drive unit, and I believe that the lubrication strength and properties are superior. Hope this may help someone in the future.

I put Mobil 1 in mine at about 4,800 miles.  Eariler this summer, I went about 5,200 miles between changes, about 4,000 of which was on the interstates at wide open throttle, and the oil was less than 1/16" below the full mark on the dipstick.

I have changed my gear oil twice now and filled it to the hole as directed and I have had no problems. I use non-synthetic gear oil.

I also use synthetic Mobil 1 for engine oil. I have research oil, I have heard all the opinions and arguments. The bottom line for me is, synthetic is superior in every way and the 250 only uses about a quart, so I am not concerned with cost.

I feel the same about the NGK Iridium plug I use. So it is $6.00 instead of $2.00 for the standard plug, $6.00 once ever few years is not going to kill me.
