Just thought I would let everyone know. I just put in a set of Dr Pulley sliding roller weights & a mellossi kevlar belt. The weights I put in were 28x22-31 grams, (one gram higher than the stock 30 grams). My old belt was quite a bit norrower as I had 22,000 miles on the beast. Between the wider new belt and the rollers my RPM's at highway speeds dropped by 500 at 65 MPH. I now travel at 70 MPH at the RPM's that I used to run at 65. About 6,000 now at 70, as before it was 6,000 at 65. Plus or minus some speedo error? This is what I wanted to gain, as I felt 6,000 was a little to high for 65 MPH. Now I am going to do a test run this weekend to see if my MPG go's up or down? It may be just a little slower at take off speeds, but if it is? It's not by much. If I get a chance I will see if my top speed is better or worse? Also as soon as my exhaust manifold gasket ever get's here, I will be able to put on my Leo Vince system. This may help with the zero to 60 take off speeds also? What I am trying to do, is to make the xciting 500 just about the best touring machine I can make it. I had to order the Dr Pulley's direct from Union Materials out of Taiwan. The cost was $75.00 with 10 day shipping. Normal shipping was $12, but I payed $25 as I thought normal shipping may have taked a month? They got here right on time. I called every importer of Dr Pulley's, and none of them had them is stock, would not order them and did not seem to care. Also, I also got them direct from the source as there have been chinese copies sold by a certain importer here in America. I think this is why some people have had wear issues from their Dr P's. From what I hear they are supposed to last much longer than stock and work much better? Everything does seem to be much smoother with less noise all around. My originals had flat area's all around them, and were more or less shot. What I am hopping for is a touring machine that I can get 50 MPG's or better at 70 MPH. I do this now at 65, but I hope with all of the new up-date's, this will work out, as I see another 4,000 mile Michigan trip comming up! Sissy. :-*

Super Trooper Sissy!  ;)  Hey, glad to hear from you again.  That sounds all good.  I want to caution you about something that was noticed by me and also, I think, Drifter here.  When I put my Dr. Pulley sliders in, I checked the fit carefully and noticed the sliders would not slide all the way to the top of the ramps without binding on the sides of the ramps.  I had to dremel the sides of the ramps a fair amount to get them to slide all the way up.  Drifter had previously noted a problem with his 31g sliders, that is -- when he would run at anything above about 140 kph, he'd notice a severe performance drop off.  Then when inspecting his variator, would see his sliders had rolled or become cocked at an unnatural position.  Further inspection showed him he had a similar problem as mine.  Just be careful.

I've had no problems at all with mine after, must be 6000 miles.  I've had the variator off several times since and found it's not hard to let a slider or two get into the wrong positon while handling it.  Just have to hold it together tightly while handling it.

By the way, I see Dr. Pulley makes whole variator set-ups.  I don't want to think about what one costs.  :D

Well said hoolander.

1st i thought the sliders were deffective so got a 2nd set but no luck even bought a new pulley and backplate. Then on my malossi pulley same thing happened after 5tkms on them.

Problem is every time i put the stock rollers back on I notice right away the decrease in performance so I end up putting sliders back on.

Fastest I've been on stock pulley with dr. Pulley sliders and x kevlar belt was 170kph with a 250lbs rider!

Yes, I remember you guys talking about those problems. I suspect alot of people got ahold of some chinese version of the Dr P's? I have not had it out yet to do a test, but I do seem to have a very slight chirping sound from the variator area I think? It could also be the belt breaking in? Or maybe it's just the way the variator sounds with the new style sliders in side? Yes, also on the fact that you have to hold the variator closed and hold it while re-installing it as the Dr P's can rotate out of place very easy. I'll let you guy's know about my on rode test of this weekend. Sissy.

My sliders came direct from Dr. Pulley in Taiwan so no cheap copys here.  They just didn't fit the stock ramps right.  Or should I say, the stock ramps weren't machined to a very good tolerance.  :D

Sorry, but with the high winds here in Phoenix I will not be able to do my mileage test. To go west of town I was riding straight into a very hard head wind. No way to get an accurate result.  >:( Sissy.

I hear that Sissy... 90 degrees out with 35mph winds in the midwest.  Just did 250 miles today... thought I had to lean the bike over the entire way on the straight flats.

Now I understand why my '07 suffered transmission problems with the Dr. P. sliders. Either they were the knockoffs or the tech did not know how to install them properly. Didn't someone say you have to hold your mouth just right and breath through your nose while putting them in the variator?
