Rear Suspension
« on: March 31, 2011, 05:41:22 PM »
I like everything about my S200, but would like a softer rear suspension for the roads I ride. I could lower the tire pressure, but how low is too low? I could look into new springs and shocks, but which would I choose for my 160 lb. weight and no passenger? They are pricey too. It would be nice if I could modify the existing springs and shocks, but I don't think that could be done. Suggestions appreciated.

Can you adjust the pre-load on the rear shocks?

I was under the impression that preload would make the ride stiffer, since you're supposed to use it with a passenger.

TechGuy means can you adjust em softer?  I'm thinking our scoots are delivered with shocks set in the middle pre-load setting.  My owner's manual says they should be in the middle setting for normal riding on average roads.  But, hey, I've tried them in every setting just to see. . . :-)

Oh, and by the way, I think two or three pounds less than the maximum tire pressure is just fine with your weight.  It's how I have mne and the ride is noticibly better on my bumpy dirt road.  My weight is only 134.
