got any ideas where i can get a standard cdi for a kymco super 8 50 4stroke

It's my understanding that CDIs are pretty much the same and performance ones can also be used. Size it by engine size. 

You local motorcycle or quad shop or performance dealer should have them in stock.

Stadium Yamaha has about the best price on oem Kymco parts, shipping is a little high though.  Otherwise, there are A/C and D/C cdi's.  An easy way to tell which you have is to disconnect the battery and see if the engine will start.  If it runs without the battery it is A/C, if not it's D/C.
