KymcoUSA 2012 Models
« on: April 11, 2011, 10:08:29 PM »
Yes, there are several new offerings!

* Like 50 LX
* Downtown 200i
* Like 200i LX
* People GT 200i
* People GT 300i

In addition, none of the current 2-stroke 50cc models will be available as 2012 models. They'll either be 4-stroke, or discontinued.

Now, will I get the Downtown 300i or the People GT 300i?

KymcoUSA Bulletin SMB-2011-008: KYMCO USA 2012 TWO-WHEEL MODEL CONFIDENTIAL DEALER PRICE LIST AND AVAILABLE NON-CURRENT MODEL LIST, dated 3/14/2011.

It's officious.  ;)

Dunno about the LX Likes -- can't find anything on the web about them at all. They will only be available in one color -- blue/white two-tone. So likely just a different paint/trim package.

Sento 50 is in the 2012 lineup, but not the 100.

People GT 300i not available in white?!  Dang.  Only black, silver and "golden," which is the odd orange color seen in the videos from last year.

I looked at the CARB website yesterday looking to see if the P300 was listed as having an Executive Order (EO).  I don't see any new orders yet for any of the new models.

Does the document say when they are coming or can I assume they will import as soon as the CARB EO gets released (which is sort of how the DT300i got released, a little later than planned... I think).

For those who don't know, CARB certifies all of the vehicles that are sold in California for emissions.  To my knowledge, 14 states require new vehicles be CARB certified.  Vehicles that are not certified can be sold in other US states and are commonly referred to as 49-state emission even though they may not be sold in all 49 states (to my knowledge). For those who follow scooters as a whole my have noticed that the SYM Symba and the Genuine Stella 4T were delayed in their 2010 releases.  If I understand it correctly, CARB certification was the major reason for the delay as most manufacturers want to have one model bike out there.

My understanding is these may be available in Fall 2011, but as they are 2012 models, it wouldn't surprise me to see them in Spring of 2012, instead.

Okay, now let me get this straight.  Are you saying you have seen an official KYMCO USA document that indicates there will be NO 2012 50cc 2-strokes available in the U.S., which includes the current Super 8 50 2T, Like 50 2T, People 50 2T and the Sting 50 2T?

Now if they'd just send over that Grand Vista 300i, I'd be happy!

Forgot to mention -- the two motorcycles (Quannon and Venox) have also been discontinued in the U.S. for the 2012 model year.

KYMCO currently has no plans to get out of the 50cc 2-stroke business.  When a KYMCO USA executive was specifically asked "Is Kymco getting out of the 50 cc 2 stroke business?", here's what they had to say, verbatim...

"No… The EPA testing requirements have changed.  Thus far Yamaha, Vespa, Genuine & ourselves have not passed.  Therefore every 2-stroke model will remain stamped as a 2011 until we pass or Dec. 31st, whichever comes first."

But, the 2-strokes, at this point, are NOT being "discontinued" as your opening post implied/suggested.  That is what concerned me so.
