Well, I guess you can take "not available as a 2012 (model)" to mean that they will be available as 2011s indefinitely, or as that and they'll be available as 2013s... but I think that'd be a rather unusual way of looking at it.

Here's my point...if I had read that memo, I personally wouldn't have assumed (in no way shape or form) that KYMCO has "discontinued" their 2-stroke 50cc's entirely from its US line-up.  I would have simply verified and/or clarified whether that was the case before putting that on the forum.  That's how inaccurate statements can turn into unwarranted concerns...not to say that someday the EPA won't make the requirements so strict, it won't be worth the investment for scooter/motorcycle manufacturers to bring 2-strokes to market here any longer.  For now, let's just hope KYMCO and their competitors figure out a way to keep bringin' in some great 2-stroke 50cc scoots.

How about this: I'll bet you dinner in Nashville that Kymco has exactly zero 2-stroke scooters or ATVs in their U.S. lineup in 2012?  I'm kinda broke, so we'll have to do Mas Tacos... but they just got a mention in the latest Rolling Stone, so I assure you, it's good eatin'.

I mean, it's not exactly like divining chicken entrails... when did Honda see the writing on the wall? 

None of this has negative implications for people who already own the 2T bikes. Parts will always be pretty easy to locate, as will mechanics who can work on them. But we really are seeing the End Days for new sales of them in the U.S. Maybe not this year. Maybe not next. But it's no big secret.

If it helps for the 2T people, they quit making 2T bikes a few years ago also (as did Yamaha) only to bring them back a year or two later once they got up to emissions standards again.  Who knows what 2013 or later holds, but for now it looks like if you want a new 2T, it's gonna be a leftover 2011.

As a total aside, I like the way they list the models as having whatever engine displacement their name implies (such as the Yager having "200cc") I wonder what displacement the Downtown 200i will actually be?

It should be 205cc just like the GTi200.

Where did you hear about Downtown 200i?

Nobody is mentioning it but in Europe it is sold both as 125 and 300 cc.

It would be strange to fit 200 between those two.

Anybody got more info on the People GT 300i ...

I'm assuming it has the same engine as the DT. If this is the case, are there any reviews for this bike or any performance numbers floating around? My searches have yielded nada.   This is all I've got so far

KYMCO currently has no plans to get out of the 50cc 2-stroke business.  When a KYMCO USA executive was specifically asked "Is Kymco getting out of the 50 cc 2 stroke business?", here's what they had to say, verbatim...

"No… The EPA testing requirements have changed.  Thus far Yamaha, Vespa, Genuine & ourselves have not passed.  Therefore every 2-stroke model will remain stamped as a 2011 until we pass or Dec. 31st, whichever comes first."

I dont know where the EPA testing is now but if the scoot manufacturers havnt passed testing isnt this about the same as being discontinued? In other words if the 2T's can't pass the EPA test then there is no 2t's going to be imported.Also I didnt get the part about the scoots being stamped as 2011? Why would they be stamped at all if they can't pass the new stricter test???

Our first delivery of 2012 People GT 300i are slated for Mid-July.  These will be shipped to the dealers who have pre-ordered.

 

US models will have the speedometer that shows Miles Per Hour.

Hello.    I wanted to know when the People GT 300i will available for order?    Also, the picture of the People 300 speedometer appears to be kph only without even an inner mph inlay.   Why?   Is the speedometer pic nonrepresentative of what the US will be getting?   Let me know.   Thanks.

btw, I know this isn't the right forum to say hello.  But hello anyway.   Been a lurker.   Just got my M class endorsement in April and will be buying my first scooter in July/August.   Trying to decide between Kymco (People 300 GTi) vs. Burgman 400.    Lots of tradeoffs.   Right now leaning towards Kymco.   Some of the posts on the People 250 S have me a little concerned.   Specifically, the quality control on Axy's thread concerns me.   That said, QA is always an issue no matter what you buy.  Pre 2008 Burgmans had their's as well.   Best!
