High mileage XC500s?
« on: April 12, 2011, 05:57:07 PM »
So, how many miles/km you got on your Xciting 500?
Anyone got over 30.000? 50.000?

About 14000 mi. on my '07.  Only problem coming up right now is I think all my brake rotors are warped.  It has the older round rotors and I want to see if the newer scalloped looking rotors will fit on mine.  I emailed Stadium Yamaha's parts dept and asked them about that but got no reply.

In 2 1/2 years I clocked 34,500 miles on my '07.

Riding an '09 now, averaging about 1,000 miles a month

No real issues. I sort of fell into a good deal and I did want the R model with fuel injection.

Any real world differences between the two (other then the presumably better fuel consumption)?
Used low-mileage carbed 500s can be found here for half the price of the FI models (which are
already as rare as it gets) so I'm a bit tempted by the cheaper alternative..

If I don't go out and buy a new Downtown 300i that is..

There were several factors other than f/i that influenced my decision. I like the cut of the seat on the '09, and the white dash.

While I was waiting for the extensive transmission rebuild on '07, I heard about this ruby red '09 at a very good price. He needed cash, and I had it, so I got it.

As for the tranny work on the '07, I now believe it was necessary because the Dr. Pulley sliders were either the cheap knockoff or the tech who installed them, did not know how to properly align them. I learned of those issues from posts by Hoolander and a couple of other guys who are more tech oriented than I am. My skills are as a storyteller and writer, I am not much of a mechanic.

I do type fast though. (chuckles)

Hi gang,

I am new to Kymco forum and owning anything other than a car for transportation.  I recently purchased a 2009 Xciting 500Ri and I love it!  Mileage is low and so was the price.  I only put on about 700 miles so far and hope to put another 70,000 miles on it.  Average about 48mpg.

I read most every story on this site.  Let's say I hope I do not have the problems I've been reading.  For the most part, it sounds like Kymco is the way to go at a discount price.

One thing I did notice was the metal housing below the plastic shrouds over the transmission, two of the bolts (on the metal housing cover) have stripped inside the housing cover (metal just flaked away off the bolt and the bolt is fine).  I hope this is not a sign of things to come.  I heard chinese metal is poor quality.  It is covered under warranty.  Let's see if the new one is any better.

Got the new aluminum cover on last week under warranty.  Funny thing is, the holes do not line up to install the plastic cover over the transmission cover.  I must say, this is certainly far from "good engineering".  No way I would ever pay retail for such a product.

Keep in mind these are Taiwanese, not Chinese.  That is a big difference.

I think one big advantage to a fuel injected bike is easy starting, and reliable cold engine running.  No need to wait to drive off, so long as you are reasonable.   Carb engines may stall or sputter til warm, injected ones take right off.
