Handlebar Risers for Xciting 500
« on: May 04, 2011, 04:11:32 PM »
I just put a set of risers on my 09 500Ri.  What a difference in riding position and comfort.  I was leaning forward a bit and after awhile riding my back hurt.  The risers move the bars back about 2 inches and up an inch. I can now sit upright.  My local dealer who is also a Honda dealer looked up the exploded view of the bar mounting and compared it to a Honda with 7/8" bars.  The fit was perfect and there is enough cable to move them back if you remove the cable bracket at top of the head.  Kymco puts positioning lugs on the mount and you have to drill a 3/8" hole about 3/8" deep in the risers so they will sit on the mount. Otherwise a good fit.  Cost was $120 with shipping and tax.
I am working on modifying the bottom plastic cover to put back on the bars.  Had to cut it anyway to keep from removing the throttle cables.

So you installed a riser for a Honda? And it fit '09  500. What model Honda? I've been wanting to do that for several thousand miles

Being 1,95m I have wondered if this could be done as my knees sometimes get in the way on slow, sharp turns.  I think that looks really nice, and I can just imagine the comfort it must add to the ride!!  ;)

I think I must invetigate whether there is a service provider here that can assist.

Thanks for posting.

Hey Winginman, looks good!!
Also found a website: http://www.dragoncustom.com/
they're out of Texas, I remember someone stating they thought about
buying a riser, but they were alittle nervous. Well I will go ahead and make
the leap of faith...according to the website, it is designed for the x500.
Will let everyone know how it turns out.
Never look back, because someone my pass you.

Ok, so I have taken the leap of faith and ordered from Dragon Customs.  Been dealing with Jon, who has been very helpful.  I will post pics once completed...

If you're willing to drill the alignment relief into them - then standard 7/8 bar risers are available on eBay for $18.  I prefer the straight up rather than the up and back anyway.
