New News on the BIG one?
« on: May 11, 2011, 03:15:58 AM »
Hi folks,

New to the forums. Been researching the Kymco brand for a while and decided to get one of their scooters. Just one ?

Is there any new news about the 700cc moto?

Not that I've seen.  Others may know more.  You're choice depends on what kind of riding you'll be doing and possibly your size and weight.

Xciting 500 is their biggest scooter in the USA right now.  It is the best Kymco for touring riding and also a nice sport rider.

However, the Downtown 300 may serve you better if you don't expect to tour much.  There is some info (not verified) that the 300 may be quicker in acceleration than the 500.

If you're a big or heavy person, I'd suggest leaning to the 500, as some members have issues with leg room on the 300 and it may not have enough reserve power when carrying a lot of weight.

I'm assuming you're looking at large scooters since you posted in this section.

Check them both out and test ride if at all possible.

Tests from scooter&sport

Downtown 300i:
0-50kph 2.5 s
0-80kph 6.1 s
0-100kph 10.5 s
top speed 135kph

Xciting 500 carb (old version)
0-50kph 2.8s
0-80kph 6.3s
0-100kph 9.9s
top speed 146kph

The Downtown 300i isn't as fat as the Xciting 500 and has the far more modern engine.
The heavy Xciting 500 accelerates with quite low revs (due to emmision cycle!). But with lighter roller weights ...
Already the Xciting 500i has a little more power and much more torque than the 500 carb.

Of course there are much better scooters like the TMax. And the BMW Concept C will become the new scooter star.
But for its money the Xciting is still reasonable powerful and has a comfortable seat and much leg room.

Here's my issue ...

My local dealer has already sold his Downtown (MY FIRST CHOICE)

and he doesn't have the Fuel injected 500i (BUMMER)

I am 6'0'' and over 250lbs. so I am a bit concerned about comfort for long trips on the bike. I like the aggressive fascia (LED lamps) of the downtown 300i and the shorter wheelbase but I can't find a single place that has one to test (DFW). Any suggestions?

P.S. the Kymco USA Facebook page is USELESS!

700 cc Kymco seems to be similar to Jeti: everybody is talking about it but not many have seen it. :)

The MyRoad doesn't sell well in Taiwan, all the Maxis are incredible expensive there (MyRoad ~9000€). But it is real and Dr.Pulley already builds tuning parts for the MyRoad.

So True!

I went and looked at a Burgman the other day. I wonder what the dimensions are for the foot rest on these bikes. The burgman I was on seemed a little cramped (sz 13). Not bad. But I doubt that I would last to San Antonio (from Dallas) on this thing.

Problem is I can't find any specs on the actual dimensions of the floor board.

To solve my problem of leg room on my 500R, I removed the butt bumper, oh excuse me, the backrest, and sawed about an inch off the rods that slide into the main seat. That gave me what I wanted.

As for the Bergman, it's a good scooter, costs more upfront, and maintenance is a bit more expensive, as befitting a larger scooter.

While surfing the web on scooter stuff came across an obscure article about the MyRoad700i. It said that the 700 didn't come out for 2010 due to the fact that Kymco sold the right to the 700cc motor to BMW and could not use it for the myroad. it goes onto saying that kymco had to design another motor for the scooter for 2011. So why would they screw themselves by selling the motor, which is probably in the BMW concept scooter. It also states that the release will be slow due to how expensive it is in some countries, which leads to me asking why sell the scoot in countries that can barely afford it and sell in the US last?

Good news.  I happen to live part of the year near KYMCO USA HQ, and have learned from someone who works there (and who didn't say the info was confidential) that the MyRoad 700i is planned for introduction in the US next year (2012).

The MyRoad has already been introduced to Europe. You can see it on kymco.it, kymco.de etc.
It is a real lardass. :-( I'm waiting for the BMW scooter!

The Kymco.IT site shows the My Road at 618 pounds and the Suzuki US website shows the Burgman 650 at 613 pounds.
More weights:  Aprilia 500 (really 460cc's), 416 pounds, Honda Silverwing, 551 pounds, Suzuki Burgman 400, 489 pounds.
All heavier than I prefer.  The Honda is a full 60+ pounds lighter than the other really large scooters.
