agility 72cc hitting rev limiter?
« on: May 13, 2011, 05:16:19 PM »
hey guys i'm not really new to scoots but i am new to the forum so let me introduce my scoot to start off, i drive a 2008 agility 4T with about 7000k on the clock. it was my first scoot but i blew it up a year or so ago running too lean (burnt a hole in my piston & scarred my cylinder pretty bad) so when my other scoot fell apart i decided to rebuild the kymco ;D. i installed a naraku 72cc kit from enviromoto, LeoVince handmade Titan exhaust, built a cold air intake out of the UNI filter that came in the kit and a peice of my original airbox tubing, and filed my main jet out to somewhere near a 110(not too sure but plug chops are coming out light tan) before the rebuild i had already cut the cdi and installed the unrestricted variator boss. i have been lurking around this awesome forum for quite some time during the rebuild and tuning afterward learning all types of stuff from you guys but i cannot seem to find an answer to the problem i'm having. the scoot has loads of power up to 40mph indicated but once it passes the 40 mark and heads toward the 70k mark it hits what feels like some sort of rev limiter  >:( i know she's got a lot more in her because she'll hold 40mph up some pretty steep hills but she won't go farther than 70k even down hill any ideas? i'm sure i'm forgetting something simple here any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you still using the stock variator? If you are that may be the problem, you could fit a race variator, think that may help but im no expert.

Only suggest this cos I had similair issues on my deresteicted scoot till I fitted my race variator, now hits 80+ downhill, 75-80 on the flat on my 50cc.

You can get the usual malossi or similair but I used a gy6 clone from taipai scooter assassins on ebay for £18 insted of near £60 for the malossi kit. Im happy with my scoot now. Maybe someone else can confirm if this sounds like your problem could be due to this? If you are still running a stock variator that is?
Chaos is my co-pilot.

Check to see if your belt is running to the outer edge of your variator, you will see by the wear marks, shiny part. If not, you may be able to try a longer belt.

yes i am still running the stock variator, clutch, & belt i'm also thinking this could be the problem so i'll be ordering one as soon as i get my next check as i've been planning on purchasing one anyway. & sid i'll check the variator later today, would either of these transmission problems cause the popping sound i'm getting?

ok i pulled the cover & checked the wear pattern it looks like my belt is riding all the way up theres about a cm left untouched on the outside edge so i don't think that is the problem. i can post pics of it but i'm not too sure how to do that on here ???

If you can see a section that has no wear marks, that would signify the belt is not running to the top, that will cost you a lot of speed.

ok sounds like i need to pick up a slightly longer belt & try it out if nothing else it will eliminate that from the list if it's not the problem & non kevlar belts are fairly cheap & easy to find around here.. now to decide what lenght.. the research begins again  :)

yea.. i just read up on that.. won't be going that route lol malossi it is then. you know of any good clutches out there because i ran my bike for a day or so with the beck brake over tightened so my clutch bell is a little discolored from heat because my clutch was slipping so i'm thinking i may need a new clutch eventually as well

I don't know of any personally, but malossi and polini are two good names. The saying goes you get what you pay for, but sometimes you pay for the name.

got my new belt in today & threw 'er on. lost a little low end but not enough to bother me & i'm hoping to gain it back with a new variator eventually, but i gained about 20kph i am now hitting 75kph(46mph) indicated on flat & around 48mph down a good hill still holding 42mph uphill so i am fairly happy, still popping once it hits top speed but as long as i cruise at 1/4 throttle it goes away hopefully the variator will fix that problem gotta wait on a check for that bab boy anyone know where i can find a multivar? i'm having some trouble locating one everyone is out of stock  :-[ also what are the dimensions of our variators? i'm gettin there ;D

Have a look through wordslinger's posts, he was looking at an overrange variator and posted the diameter of his stock one, though I don't remember what that was
