Newbie looking for advice.
« on: May 26, 2011, 01:08:43 PM »
Hello all,

I am new to riding a scooter (2 weeks) and of course new to this forum.
I purchased a new 2009 People S 125 from a local dealer and am very much enjoying the scooter but I am already beginning to think of ways to squeeze just a little more speed out of it.

I read that the top speed for a People S 125 is 100Km/h and I have ridden mine at speeds around 90Km/h but I have never attained the advertised top speed.  Knowing that there are many variables that can affect this, including that my scoot is not yet broken in. I thought I would ask the members here for some advice.

What, If anything can I do to squeeze a little more performance out?  I do not wish to make any major modifications to the scooter but if there are some things I can do to get another few Km/h out of it that advice would be most welcomed.  Actually, anything that I should know about my new toy would be welcomed.

Cheers,

First off welcome to the forums. The first thing that will affect the top speed is your size and weight. I have an 08 and without any changes to the bike after brake in was about what you are getting now. Also the speedometers tend to read hi. Check your speed with a gps to see how far off it is.
I have gotten 100K out of mine with a slight tail wind but the speedo indicates 111K. The thing that made the bigist difference in speed is I put on a tall windshield. The only other thing I have done was to change to Dr. Pulley sliders when the rollers started to ware.
BTW the S 125 has been a very good bike for me, now have 30,000 K on it and still running like new. :)

The People S 125 was marked with 92kph in Germany.

yes that sounds about right.  I had mine up to about 90 today and surprisingly smoothly.

Thanks for that I was thinking about looking into one.  I was a little surprised, as a new rider, by how much wind there is at even 60Kms/hr. I wonder if a higher windshield would cut that down a little.

It made a world of difference on mine, mind you I mostly did hi way running with mine. Still ride it around town but use the new DT300i on the open road now.
