Kymco 50cc drive belt sizes
« on: June 10, 2011, 12:29:33 PM »
G'day all, some time ago someone posted a thread about drive belt sizes. I don't remember who it was, or what section it was in.
I am in need of a new belt, I have a 729-17.7-30 coming from scrappydog scooters, I also have a 732-18.5-8 coming from Dayco. I don't know whether these will fit, but I have seen 743 advertised for the ZX50. The belt that is on mine now measures 720mm long. This is the genuine belt, part no. 23100-KCX-9000.
When I rang a dealer in Adelaide today asking for a belt for the ZX50, he said he had one in stock, but when he mentioned the part no.
23100-KEB7-9000 I mentioned the wrong part no. and he had a look and found the 23100-KCX-9000 and compared them . According to this fellow, the KEB7 supersedes the KCX.
I got onto Stadium yamaha website and looked through the various models, it seems that the ZX50 is the only one to use the 23100-KCX-9000 belt
The following models use a 23100-KEB7-900:
Agility 50
Vitality 50 4T
Super 9 a/c 2007

The following scoots use a 23100-KEB7-9000:
People 50 and S 50
Yup 50
Cobra Cross 50
Super 9 3 tone 2003, 2004, 2 tone 2002
Vitality 50
I was just wondering if anyone knows the measurements of these belts, any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Sid.

Hi sid, sid the guy compare the 2 belts to see if they are the same physical width and length? Maybe it just a different kind, if the numbers are the same at the start and the end? I sont know, just guessing, but surely if they arw the same size then it would work?

I don't know how he compared them, it was over the phone so I only had his word to go on.
He said they were the same length, but that the teeth might be a little different.
I forgot to mention in the earlier post, I dont know the significance of the last zero being there or not.

Well prob better then to get the right one just in case. Think I will change my belt soon on my agility to a kevlar one since mine is still stock and done 13500km on it.

Will do. How so I measure it? Tape measure round the whole outside of the belt? Or is it the inside diameter? Guessing outside?

Around the outside. The width will be different than stock due to wear, but if you have vernier calipers, you could also measure the thickness and also note the part no. on it.

OK, found a belt on ebay for the People, Cobra and Super 9, was a Gates Powerlink PL30504, replaces the 23100-keb7-9000.
Trying to cross reference to find the size, I came across www.scooterdynasty.com, they listed the belt as being 748x18x28.
The belt they list for the ZX50 is PL20601 standard belt or PL30601 kevlar belt. These belts are 732x18.5-28.
So, at least now that has cleared up the question of the two belts, 23100-keb7-9000 does not supercede the 23100-kcx-9000, it is indeed a longer belt. However, the belt from mine is 720mm long, they list a 732mm belt as a replacement, I guess 12mm is not a whole lot in length but if it will ride higher on the rear pulley at idle and take off, that should give a better launch, only drawback is that it may bind on the casing at the front pulley as there is not much room there, 2mm at most.

My Agility 50 belt is a Bando - 23100-KEB7-9000i measured it at 728mm but it done 13500km so i dont know if they stretch over time?

Scooter assassins have a belt listed for my scoot as 729x18x30, 729mm long, so maybe thats right and i missed a mm i the measure.

My 23100-kcx-9000 belt turned up today. To the best I can measure, it is 723mm long, 17.7mm wide and 8mm thick.

Picked up my 732x18.5x8mm belt today, so the old belt came out, I was surprised at the physical difference between the old belt and the new one, both the same make and model, Kymco 23100-KCX-9000, made by Bando. 2.7mm makes a big difference when placed side by side.
I first put in the 732 belt and at 18.5mm wide it was a bit too big, with the clutch closed and wrap the belt around the pulley it has about 1mm outside the circumference of the pulley. It was too wide to fit in the variator comfortably and pulled the belt into the clutch to make it fit, though with some use I expect it will wear in ok.
Comparing the two genuine belts, the worn one sits a fair way into the rear pulley with pulley closed, the new one sits just proud of the pulley, but, when fitting to the variator I had to pull the belt into the clutch to fit it over the drive boss, so the 732 belt might be ok after all. A longer belt might still be on the cards. I went for a ride with the 732 belt, went past 80kmh which is the highest speed on the dial, found no signs of belt rub.
I have taken some pics of the belts in the clutch, buit can't seem to uplod pics to the forum anymore.

I always have to pull my belt into the clutch to get it over the drive boss. Was harder to do since I fitted the 1000 torque spring, once im healed up I plan to try out the 1500 and 2000 torque springs with 7.5g rollers so maybe hard to open the rear pulley to get belt slack then. Worry about that later tho, cant do sh!t right now with a busted hand :'(
