How to drain the Evap canister
« on: November 06, 2008, 08:58:25 PM »
I posted this in the People 150 section, as well.

HELP! My daughter turned over my People 150 and now it has stalled and will not start. This has happened before (the turning over, when the scooter fell over on weak asphalt), so I know exactly what it is since that's what the service guy said it was. Said all he had to do was drain it and let it dry and there she goes. I could take it back to have it drained again, but that's $80 for very little work (and a huge embarrassment, as well ::)). Can someone help me with this?

Feel free to e-mail me directly at marcsirkin@gmail.com.

Thanks so much in advance.

You probably already solved this issue by now. But if you did not, the first step is to get a manual. You can look around this forum. Some one previously posted a site to down load  (disc or print to paper). Then strip off what ever body work, take the pre-cautions in the manual and remove the canister. Depending how long it has been saturated- you may need to replace. I would try to drain it in a safe area, and let it drip/dry (also in a safe area) for a few days. If you hear gas sloshing when you shake it after that, you probably need to replace it. I do know that on Piaggio scooters their web site has a fix for a rich condition caused by overfilling the fuel tank.Similar to your situation- they say to take the vacuum hose off the canister system and install a fuel filter in the hose going back to the carb to keep dirt out. I'm not saying you should do this, and you need to be sure this doesn't create a lean condition. This is just information I have read. see www.modernvespa.com and look around for drivability problems/fixes. hope this helps.
