Had a lot of trouble finding the actual text and I ended up with the one one from KYMCO Canada, but I'll bet it's the same one here in the US as well.

http://www.kymco.ca/contentfiles/2007%20Warranty%20Certificate_Scooters%20&%20Motorcycles.pdf

It's kind of hard to read with the COPY watermark, but if you zoom in you can read it.

For the first year everything is covered. For the next 6 months engine and electrical is covered and for the full 2 years just the engine.

All,

I had ask Kymco about doing my own maintenace and that 90 day inspection thing listed on the warranty card.

Simple put as long as we follow the manual and document the work we can do all the required maintenace ourselves and not void the warranty. Also that 90 day inspection thing is no longer a requirement but just a recommendation.

See my email correspondence below:
From Kymco

This previously was a requirement but no longer is. However we do recommend that the dealer inspect the unit thoroughly at this time. This is simply to be sure that there is nothing happening with the unit that may need some preventive maintenance before it could possibly go any further. Chances are nothing would be found, it would simply be a precautionary measure implemented after initial use of the vehicle.

Subject: Warranty question.

Steve,

You recently answered my question about doing my own oil changes without voiding the warranty provide I document it.  I just got my warranty card from my deal the other day and it clearly states I need to have it inspected within 90 days or the warranty is void.

I bought thr bike Nov 8. I live in the Chicago area. Basically the bike is on the trickle charger until March. I called the local dealer and asked them about this inspection. They said they just change the engine oil and gear oil. As I plan to do this myself what is the requirement for this 90 day inspection clause? And considering I wont put 300km on the bike until March 2009 what should I do?

thanks
Tad

Alot  more than  just  changing  oil  should  be  done  by  your  dealer on  inspection...

These  are  not  Toyota's...They  are  small  displacement  ,high  reving, vibrating  machines.

Things  get  loose..exhaust  bolts, heat  shields,,wire  ties , nuts  and  bolts etc..

These  machines will  give  you endless  miles  of  trouble  free  performance..They  require  more  love and attention than  a car..

Do  you  know what  to  look  for??

Standing on  the  side  of the  road  waiting for  a tow  truck  can  be   a pain.

Ending  up  in  the trees  off  the  side  of  the road  can make  you  injured  or  worse..

Happy  Thanksgiving

I had asked the local dealer what he did for the first oil change/inspection. He flat out told me he just changed the oils. I really dont think other dealers do that much more. I also think I can do a better job going over the bike for loose bolts, hoses and wires. When I changed my engine and gear oil this weekend I know I did a better job than the dealer. I let it drain much longer than a dealer would and I know exactly what quality of oil I put back into it. Doing the oil on the scooter was far easier than my motorcycle or cars.

Anybody with a basic mechanical skills should really consider doing at least the basic maintenance them selves. I think overall they can do an equally good job as a dealer.

But for stuff like valve adjustments or tire changes I think thats a service worth paying for because of the convienance and the learning curve involved for doing something like that yourself, and not having the proper tools.

An interesting read from a few yrs ago.
Wonder how many folks have read those warranty sheets that came in the packet with their scooter?

In the U.S. some states, also , have their own 'Implied Warranty' . In Maine it is a 4-year warranty and covers more/longer than the Original 2 year Kymco Warranty .
