How much mileage is too much on an engine?

So I am being offered a Kymco 125 motor from a a125. The bad part is that it has 4k miles on it. Would you rebuild this motor before you put it in a daily driver? By rebuild I mean crank, crank bearings, rod, top end, etc.

It should be good for well over 4K. I have seen vespa 125 cc engines go well over 20k. My kymco 163cc (people s200) has over 10k. If it is running good, don't fix it. You will hear and or feel when you need to do some top / bottom end work. KYMCO engines are durable little monsters.

Also, my bad the motor actually has 2500 miles. I was reading the km as miles on the odo.

Now, would you up a 125cc to a 150cc piston/cylinder on the 2500 mile motor without replacing the crank bearings?

Most of these scoots are driven in Africa and Asia by people who do not use Internet and write on forums.

They do few thousand miles monthly with those scoots.

Do you think that it is neccessary to rebuild engines every few thousand miles?

again, with that low milage, there should me no reason to replace your crank (big end) bearings. Work on the top end will not require cracking the case. When (if) you get a top end upgrade kit, It will most likely come with new wrist pin (little end) bearings. Hope this helps! scoot on!

edit : no joke, these engines are reported to run for 50.000..70.000km's when treated right.

My S125 has 30000K on it now and doesn’t even use any oil yet. It starts and runs like new. One question would you rebuild your car engin every 20000K?

I had too rebuild my engine after 11000.km I now have 20000 hope it holds up a little longer Ill ride tell it dies. Im hoppeing for one more summer out of it.

the grank shaft was bent and it was running good at the time of rebuild but it was running with a lound sound.runns sweeter then ever now after the rebuild they did a good job but took for ever geting the scoot back like 6 monthes later not fun.

So that is just an unusual incidence, nothing to do with poor quality. The time frame is a big let down, was that the dealer's fault or Kymco's?

16,600 on ine and runs like a top. My bike is a agility 125 though. Heck the warranty on mine ran for 2 yrs or 20,000 kilo so they run a great while if they are taken care of.
