How to De-Restrict

Hi.

Just got my Agility 50 2009 plate, 5000km, Paid £610 for it. First impressions: great little scooter, looks great also but i could do with a few more mph out of it  ::)

What is the cheapest/safest way to get a few more mph out of it and how is it done?

New to scooters so could you break it down for me a little.

There is already tons of info all about it Throughout this forum. Try typing derestrict in the search field....

1. You will be getting a smooth variator boss ($20-$30)

2. Cutting your existing CDI or buying a new one without a rev limiter ($0-$120)

3. Adding a #82 main jet ($6)

After you have done those things from the pages and pages of instruction already on this forum you can start doing other little or big mods to get that extra little bit out of it.

Thats originally what I said and now I'm in the process of adding a 70cc big bore kit among many other things. So never say never. But if that's all your really looking for then those few things will get you there.

Save your money and give up now.
Its going to be a neverending quest for that additional 5-10mph.
Its fun though, but it gets frustrating.

Ah ok I see. So cutting the CDI is the easiest option as i have read







So I just cut the edge like I have seen on other pics?   Do I need to do anything else to aid this or will this run fine with just the cut? Ta.

Also why is is a quest? What are the problems with it?

Cutting the CDI is such an easy way and will open your kymco up and lets it rev alot higher.
All you need to do is go to the bottom of the CDI (the opposite side to the green part) make a small saw about a quarter of an inch. If you search it in the bar at the top of the window someone has done one taking pictures. Also the LeoVince exhaust has helped mine on acceleration however its £105 well worth it though in my experience.

I understand the CDI cut, will be doing this tomorrow, but do I need to do something else as well to the Moped after the CDI cut?  I hopefully will be putting a 82 Main Jet on as well. Will it be ok to cut the CDI and change the jet to 82 or do I need to do something else as well when doing these things?

Modify your current boss drive or get a new smooth boss drive and your scooter will be fully derestricted.

From what I understand you will be running too lean after doing the CDI cut, so I wouldn't wait long to change to the #82 jet.  In fact an #84 jet may be preferable.

I did have a #84 jet with that set up and it was running a little rich for me but I think a lot of it depends on your specific scooter/altitude/temperature and so on. So it may take a bit of tinkering before you find what works right for you. But it would always be better to run a little rich rather than a little lean.

Cut the CDI that will give you the additional 6-8mph that you are looking for.
THen check your main jet... mine was already an #82 which is fine for a scoot with a cut CDI
No reason to change a jet because you have removed a rev limiter... only reason to upjet is if  you change the amount of air coming in (ie. Free flow air filter)

that looks like a old school cdi box that I beleave you have to just pull the green wire off.
and you should be good.

It is recommended, that you install stonger valve springs after cutting the CDI, to be sure the valves wont float. This isnt normally a problem on the cutted agility CDI, as it is restricted to 7000 RPM before the cut, and restricted to 9000 after the cut. But if you've got the skills and tools, its better to be safe than sorry ;)
